A Magazine Should have...

Masthead: Must be the largest piece of text on the page. It should be in a distinctive font that the reader will remember.

Colour Scheme: All magazines have a colour scheme. It makes the publication look more professional.

Subheadings: Subheadings are placed on the page according to how important to the reader they are

Cont. Strap: Is at the foremost top of the page. It lists either competitions or gigs. It is smaller than the masthead so it doesn’t take away the attention, but is there so the audience can see it.

Anchoring: this star is very recognisable in this genre. Her name/band is anchored onto her fist to show attitude.

Eye Contact: this is vital so the reader feels involved and engaged in the magazine.

Fonts: too many strong fonts clash.. Big, bold fonts should be used for main heading and masthead.

Barcode: least important part of magazine.

Other features: readers may not be interested in the main feature so look at the other features to see if they want to buy the magazine.

In this preliminary task, we were asked to create a magazine front cover where we ourselves featured as the main image.We chose the image, main font and brand of this magazine.

Mode of Address: Star and features relate to the ideal reader – appeals to key demographic.

Button: Selling point – attracts readers who like the star mentioned.

Colour Scheme: All colours are similar so it creates brand identity.

A Magazine Contents Should Have...

Columns: To order the features – easy navigation for the reader, they can pick out what they want to read.

Star: Usually related to the front cover – engages reader in main feature. Does not necessarily need eye contact with reader.

Colour Scheme: Creates brand identity.

Pull-Out Quote: Related to star and anchored on star. Relates to one of the main features.

Identity: Masthead is repeated to create brand identity.
