‣ The traffic in Philippines is often heavy and unruly, plan for it!

‣ The public transport, i.e buses and even air conditioned cabs are not expensive

‣ Even cheaper are the jeepneys, which are essentially a cross between jeeps and mini-buses ‣ Manila also has a metro train, however it can be fairly crowded

Some Things to Carry

Slippers Bring slippers, even though you can buy them locally, as the beaches in the Philippines are best enjoyed walking

Mosquito Repellants Since Philippines is a tropical country, mosquitoes are found here. It is a good idea to carry your own mosquito repellant like Odomos

Clothes

Pack in light cotton clothes and lots of shorts as you will be walking on the beach and enjoying the pristine sands of Philippines

Its best if you can have all your things fit in a backpack. Don't bring your luggage made of leather as it gets powdery white due to the sea salt

Most of the things that you need will be available locally except medicines, carry your own

Do’s and Dont’sEnsure the safety of your valuables (money, jewelry, laptop, etc.), avail a safety deposit box when leaving your hotel

Do not leave your valuables unattended on the beach while swimming

Leave important documents (passport, plane tickets, etc.) at the hotel’s safety deposit box when going island hopping or other water activities

To ensure the safety of your cellphones and other gadgets, put them in a water proof bag

Strangers or no strangers, the people love to wave at people anytime. Waving back is acknowledging their presence

Some Important Dont’s

It is always recommended that tourists don’t flash their valuables

Also, beware of pickpocketing. It’s a problem in most major cities, so be careful and do not put your wallet in the rear pocket

Do not leave valuables openly in hotels too. Keep them in a safe, at the hotel

Even though almost everyone can speak English, you may encounter some people who will only speak in the local language. Don’t be irritated while talking to them

The notes come in the denominations of 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 pesos.

Wherever possible, bring cash with you. ATMs usually dispense in 500 PHP bills: they are frequently offline or out of funds, so do not rely on them exclusively
