PROJECT TITLE: COMPRESSED AIR VEHICLES
Presented by : Shreya Jitesh Jayanth A V Sachin Sathish Hemanth L Lavanya N
PROBLEM STATEMENT Fossil fuels like petrol and diesel pollute air abundantly in the metro city Delhi.
SOLUTION Modify the current 4 stroke engine to run with compressed
air as the fuel. Redesign the pressure to the inlet of the engine to increase
the speed and load carrying capacity. Make a prototype which can travel for a maximum uniform
distance at one charge.

DESIGN OF STRUCTURE
WORKING Piston One – takes in air compresses at 300 psi and 200º F in
compression chamber during first cycle of the engine. Piston pauses and small amount of air is released in expansion
chamber and created a low pressure of 140 psi with low temperature and low volume.
A high speed shutter connects the compression and expansion chamber
Sudden pressure and temperature difference in the two chamber creates pressure and wave in expansion chamber produces work in that drives the piston to drive the engine.
COMPRESSED AIR TANK
o The compressed air tank is made of carbon fibre which can hold 80 kg of air compressed to 300 bars.
o In case of major accident, the tanks do not blow up like metals and the air just gushes out to the surroundings
o The tanks are composed of an interior thermoplastic container which ensure it is airtight and is held in a coiled and crossed carbon fibre shell
COST ANALYSIS Cost Analysis can be broken down mainly into following and can only be approximately estimated. 1. Engine - ₹ 4,000/- 2. Chassis - ₹ 9,000/- 3. Steering, Braking, Transmission and Drive System - ₹ 15,000/- 4. Air Tank and the connections - ₹ 15,000/- 5. Tyres - ₹ 2,000/- 6. Rest of the Fabrication charges - ₹ 5,000/- Total: ₹ 50,000/-
OPPURTUNITIES THREATS
Huge demand in automobile industry for alternate fuel vehicles • Cheaper running costs • Increase in job market in this sector
 Achieving 4500 psi of
pressure to compress air and store it requires special mechanism.
Nominal speed is only 60-80 km/hr.
Availability of charging stations is very less.
CONCLUSION Air Powered cars is a realization of latest technology in the
present automobile field. This concept is used in Germany and there about 75% of
automobiles are working on the same principle. If this concept is utilized in our country, then there will a lot of
improvements in Automobile field. REFERENCES Global Journal of Research in Engineering Automotive Matt’s Sullivan World’s First Air Powered Car (
