INTRODUCTION

role for the economic development of the country.

rubber is consumed by 30 tyre manufactures other 25% by tread rubber

producers. MIDAS is the leading tread rubber makers in India. India is fourth
largest natural rubber consumer in the world after U.S.A., Japan & china. Rubber
is Kerala’s primary & prestigious crop.
The rubber industry has global importance and has unique impact on world
economy.
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study helps to understand the working pattern of the organization and
it helps to improve decision-making skill. Conducting organizational study is
necessary factor for awarding the degree certificate. The organizational study
helps to get a good knowledge about the industry. It helps to understand the
culture in the organization and its effectiveness on employees.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The conducted study helps the researcher to understand the actual
functioning of different departments of the company. The study on Midas pre-
cured treads pvt Ltd analysis the functioning of different and their inter
relations, this study also tried to reveal information related to
production ,HR,marketing,systems,sales ,purchase departments.
LIMITATIONS
1) The management showed unwillingness to supply certain critical
information, which is essential for the study.
2) The officers were very busy
3) Time being the limiting factor the investigator could not go deep in
to the total position of the company.
4) Investigator had to depend secondary data so some of technical &
administrative aspect were not available
PURPOSE OF STUDY
The purpose of this study is to get close understanding of the operation,

managerial policies & strategies of the company. But lack of time persuaded the
investigator to abridge the work.Inspite of that, the study has tried its level best
to reach about perfection in all ways.
METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY
The Advanced Learner’s Dictionary of Current English lays down the
meaning of research as “a careful investigation or inquiry especially through
search for new facts in any branch of knowledge”.
The work is essentially an organizational study. The researcher has done a
top to bottom examination of MIDAS procured Ltd laying special emphasis on the
marketing aspects of the company. An important item in the literature was the
company’s memorandum and articles of association. As for the primary data
collection, the interview method was followed. The researcher interviewed
various members of the company’s management as well as the supervisory and
athor workers.
The data collected was processed in order to make it suitable to analysis. Editing
of data was undertaken after all the personal interviewes were over.The data
was checked for the completeness, accuracy and uniformity.

concerning an inquiry or a research study constitute a research design.“A
research design is the arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of
data in a manner that aims to combine relevance to research purpose with
economy in procedure”.
In fact, the research design is the conceptual structure analysis done. The
findings of the analysis were interpreted to reveal the exact state of affairs of the
company. Suggestions for the problems identified also have been made in the
report.

details regarding the data collection methods. Fourth chapter deals with the
performance of different functional department. Fifth and sixth chapter are the
SWOT analysis and conclusion respectively.

RUBBER INDUSTRY IN INDIA
Rubber is kerala’s primary and prestigious crop. It is cultivated in about
876000 hectors in the state and account for nearly 67%total area under major
plantation crop. The use of rubber is widespread, as the characteristics and
properties of these elastomers make them useful in almost all economic sectors:
automobiles, footwear, civil construction, plastics, and others that of crucial
importance in the daily life of society. Rubber is most widely used to produce
tires. Rubbers are of various types that is natural rubber, synthetic rubber, and
reclaim rubber. These three types of rubbers constitute the major and the most
important raw materials of the tire industry and hold a strategic position in the
country’s economy.
TYRE INDUSTRY
Tyre was invented in 19th centuries from the solid rubber tyre cotton
plynuemetric tyre to radicalized tyre.Tyres and tubes, the strategic rubber
products and basic supplements to the automotive vehicles are of utmost
importance to the country’s economy. The tyre industry sector is providing direct

employment to over 40000 people and indirect employment to lakhs of
pepple.This industry sector now being considered as a core industry sector.
The manufacturing of automobile tyres as an essential ancillary for the
development of automobile sector came in to being in India during the 1930’s
when the Dunlop India Ltd, the first tyre manufacturing transactional company
started its operation in 1935 at Sahaganj in West Bengal...
The interesting feature of the tyre industry in India is that starting from its
inception to the present day; its progress has been influenced by repeated
import of technical collaborations.
There is an urgent need to build up indigenous capabilities for tyre technology
including the tyre machinery.
In view of this, it was thought desirable to undertake there view of present
status of this industry and to identify and analyse the critical required for
absorption and up gradation of imported technology.
During the early 80’s ,procured retreding was introduced and is now well
accepted because of its various advantages.In this process the buffed &inflated
secondly the tyre was built under inflated conditions and lastly it was cured in a

MIDAS PRE-CURED TREADS (p) Ltd. George Varghese found general rubbers, with its Midas brand of retreading
materialism 1969.Mr.George Varghese a creative thinker and industrialialist,who
recognized the importance of retrading well before the retrading sector become
popular in common, founded the present MIDAS PRE-CURED TREADS PVT
Ltd .The leader in the procured treads and conventional treads in the present
scenario.
Mr. George Varghese presently heads the Midas group and his wife
Mrs.Mariamma Varghese heads the unit in Tamilnadu.The Midas group was
started a small tread rubber unit in Ettumanoor industrial estate in kottayam
district, which is known as (the rubber land of Kerala.)(Kottayam district is the
highest producer of rubber in India) with the initial investment 65,000 in 1969.In
1985 July 31st MIDAS, PRECURED TREADS PVT (Ltd) was established as a small
scale unit at Ettumanoor. It has mainly engaged in manufacturing of pre-cured
tread rubber. Now the company is a medium scale unit.

India’s largest rubber compounding unit belongs to the Midas group known as
Midas rubber private Ltd.This company’s mixing capacity is 180 tonne per day.
It is the Midas, which is supplying rubber compounds to many of Indian
major tyre companies like Apollo tyers, j.k tyers as per their needs. Midas
produces 1800-2000 tones per month. The major revenue for the group is form
the sale of procured tread rubber and its market is entirely out side kerala.
The introduction of procured treads in India made MIDAS in the forefront with
the availability of the best raw material that is the natural rubber close at hand.
