    Executive Summary of Project

    Project Embedded (acronym PED) is aninitiative started by AIESEC in NUS since

    2008, to increase the awareness of socialentrepreneurship as an alternative to theconventional entrepreneurship amongstyouth in Singapore. By doing so, PED aimsto equip youth with the know-how andempower them to be future socialentrepreneurs.

    This project is in alignment with the MCYSSocial Enterprise Committee's objective togrow vibrant local social enterprises byencouraging active youth participation insocial entrepreneurial activities, therebyspreading the movement.

    Working closely with NUS Centre of SocialEntrepreneurship and Philanthropy (CSEP)and other successful social entrepreneursin the field, members from AIESEC in NUShave reached out to more than 1000youths through the events and workshopsheld annually.

    PBoX Implementation

    The project is divided into 3 phases that can be characterized by the acronym ACT.

    Phase 1: Awareness creation

    Shade of Life Photo Competition09: The competition themed Shade of Life encourages studentsto capture social issues through their lenses. It aims to provoke thoughts on pressing socialproblems and how Social Entrepreneurship can be a sustainable way to alleviate these problems.An exhibition of the winning photos will be held in NUS.

    (u)SE Week09: The 5-day event exposes university students to the concept of socialentrepreneurship through lunchtime seminars, exhibitions and bazaars, public forums and socialenterprise experiential visits.

    Phase 2: Comprehension

    Symposium NeueThinken10: The Symposium is an interactive platform for individuals to learnmore about social innovation and change through the lens of social entrepreneurship. It is alsowhere youths can explore ways to engage in social entrepreneurship through various platforms likeAIESEC, Synic and SE Forum.

    GEW Symposium10: The GEW Symposium aims to encourage youth and the general public toparticipate in discussion and sharing on whats new in the social enterprise space and hearpractitioners talk about their social entrepreneur initiatives that include environmental conservation,

    economic sustainability and community first approach.AIESEC Global Internship Program: Leveraging on our established AIESEC Global InternshipProgram, the overseas exchange platform provides opportunities for aspiring youth socialentrepreneurs to broaden their global perspectives and exchange entrepreneurial ideas when theywork full time in these social enterprises.

    Neuemethode@SG10: The social business proposal writing competition serves as a means for

    youth who are interested in social entrepreneurship to engage in vigorous brainstorming forbusiness solutions to social problems and exercise their entrepreneurial skills. The competition alsotarget youth who are entrepreneurial but with little prior knowledge about social enterprises

    It aims to showcase the products and services such as assorted art and craft items, accessoriesand gift items offered by local Social Enterprises. It also provides students the opportunities tointeract with social entrepreneurs and find out more about starting a social business in Singapore!

    SE Interactive Workshop

    Through account of first-hand experience, success stories sharing and discussions on varioussocial issues, participants will gain insights into the needs of the marginalized community and beguided to in formulating creative SE ideas to solve the problems. The workshop will also touch onthe concept of social entrepreneurship, difference between social enterprises, businesses andcharities, its relevance and importance to the community and youths, and why young people shouldopt to be a social entrepreneur.     Symposium Neuethinken

    Date: 03 April 2010Venue: NUS Business School, LT16

    The Symposium is an interactive platform for individuals to learn more about social innovation andchange through the lens of social entrepreneurship. It is also where youths can explore ways to

    engage in social entrepreneurship through various platforms like AIESEC, Synic and SE Forum.The full day event consists of a series of talks, workshops, conversations and panel discussion.

    The objectives of the symposium are:

    To raise awareness on global issues and propose social entrepreneurship as a viable andsustainable business model to address social issues.

    To build network among participants through interactive sessions that equips them with thenecessary skills and knowledge about social entrepreneurship, as well as exposing them todiverse perspectives.

    To activate youth leadership in social entrepreneurship.

    Event concept:

    1. Knowledge and understanding: Participants will first understand the concept of socialentrepreneurship and the importance of innovation through talks.

    2. Empowerment and execution: Participants will then be empowered through hands onlearning in the workshops.

    3. Inspiration and sustainability: Lastly, participants will engage in conversations for inspiration,panel discussion and world caf where they will clarify ideas as well as network and discusspassionate issues with other counterparts.

    The social business proposal writing competition serves as a means for youth who are interested insocial entrepreneurship to engage in vigorous brainstorming for business solutions to socialproblems and exercise their entrepreneurial skills. The competition also target youth who areentrepreneurial but with little prior knowledge about social enterprises. Competition was open to allstudents enrolled in Junior Colleges, International Schools, Polytechnics and Tertiary EducationalInstitutions in Singapore. The 7 winning teams were awarded cash prize of SGD1000 each andoptional internship opportunities at local social enterprises.www.neuemethode.com

    Special Award types:

    1) The Innovative Business Model Award honours the business proposal which is innovative ingetting seed investment and turning the organization profitable within the shortest span of time.

    2) The Creative Marketing Strategy Award honours the business proposal which develops anintegrated communications strategy to promote the products and services at the lowest input cost.3) Highest Social Impact Award honours the business proposal which demonstrates the highestqualitative and quantitative social impact potential of the venture to its stakeholders and clientele.4) Young Performer Award honours a high potential individual or team which demonstrates longterm desire to contribute to the Non Profit sector and outstanding all round abilities

It was held in conjunction with the award ceremony of Neuemethode@SG.

    Responsible Gambling

    Responsible gambling was started in AIESEC SMU to raise awareness and impart vital skills onhow and where to draw the line when gambling.

    Uniqueness of Responsible Gambling initiative

    Tackling the issue of problem gambling which is a issue that many youths tend to overlookand dismiss as unimportant.

    A global perspective through the involvement of AIESECers from other countriesPoverty Through Our Lenses (POL)

    POL was started in AIESEC SMU to raise awareness on the extent of poverty around us with theuse of pictures. POL especially aims to get Singaporean youth to appreciate what they have and beaware of the less fortunate in our society.

    Activating youths participation for the need in a paradigm shift to tackle environmentalissues that affects the world today

    AIESEC in China

    Social entrepreneurship project EYD aims to raise the social awareness of social enterprise.
