2
16 Crystals separated in 4 groups, inserted in each of the alveole quarters
CF Alveole
PWO Crystals
Al Insert
2 preamplifiers per Crystal
Capsules with 2 APD per Crystal
L Frames to support Capsules. Glued to the Crystal
Grease between APD and Crystal
Drawbacks
• APDs Capsules redesign
• Frames redesign
• Preamplifiers configuration
3
New design criteria
• APDs: together and centered?– Test of configuration (together or not together)
• Preamplifiers configuration: as close as possible due space limitations– Insert thickness
4
Capsules
• Compactness around APDs: gives more gluing surface between Crystal and Frame.
5
Inserted from sides
Gluing surface
Active area
Patch Panel
• Removes wiring between APDs and Preamplifiers.
• Mounted on Capsules.• 2 types of Patch Panels.
6
Assembly1. Patch panel
insertion2. APD insertion
guided by pins 3. Pins welding?
Preamplifiers
• New stacking method: one opposite to the other.
• Grouped over a single Tray (16 per Tray).º
7
Connectors for pins
Spacers between Preamplifiers and Tray
Preamplifiers
• Positioning.
8
Frame
• Group of 4 Crystals/Capsules.• Groove for spare glue.
9
0.3 mm groove
New design
Mounting group
10
• 4 Crystals• 1 Frame• 4 APD Capsule
groups
To be assembled in each Alveole quarter hole
Frame - Materials
• PEEK: expensive?• ABS: properties?• Aluminium:
– Better for thermal behaviour– Electric point of view?– Possible to glue?
11
Alveoles
• 10 mm of gluing surface.• Front covered.• Frames separated by middle cross?
12
10 mm of gluing surfaceMiddle
cross
Holes for Optic Fibers in the front
Aluminium Insert
• Thickness of 5-6 mm.• 0.1 mm from Alveoles for gluing• Possibility of assembly guides• Grooves for Trays
13
6 mm thick
5 mm thick
Future tasks• Material analysis.• Load analysis of Insert and Alveoles.• Thermal analysis.
– Test different ideas for cooling• Vertical and horizontal load analysis.• Mounting plates, Supports… Continue with
the design• Assembly procedure
