Church School Sunday Morning Program
This year, Sunday mornings offer a few options for our younger members.
These classes are designed more with different learning styles and interests in
mind than with age groups in mind. Register according to your child’s interests
and abilities for the fall, then know that you can switch to the alternative ap-
proach in the spring. 10:00-10:45a.m. weekly.
Preschoolers Come learn and play! Expert preschool teachers Denise
Hanser and Tracy Clark will lead our youngest using the
Spark Rotation Curriculum, occasionally dovetailing
with our older Rotation programming.
Who is a good fit? This class is great for children who can sit in a circle and
engage with stories but who might not be ready to work independently. (Think:
3-5 years old)
Spark Rotation In this model, we learn Bible stories in multi-week units. Each week we visit a
different ‘workshop’ and engage the theme with fun activities like art, science,
videos, games, and worship integration.
Who is a good fit? Children who are not proficient readers will feel welcome in
this group, though the changing workshops mean that older ages may also en-
gage well. (Think: ‘Lower/Mid Elementary’)
Connect Our Connect group meets weekly to engage with
God’s big story through videos, Bible exploration,
and hands-on projects. Each week, kids watch the
witty and quirky Connect videos, open up their Bibles, and get creative.
Who is a good fit? This group will open up NRSV Bibles and wield scissors. Can
your young person be trusted with such powerful tools? (Think: ‘Upper Ele-
mentary/Early Middle’)
Don’t forget—our nursery is open throughout Sunday mornings! Our
highly qualified nursery staff loves to welcome children of all ages.
Sunday Evening Programs
Monthly “At the Table”
At the Table is our intergenerational event combining learning, serving, wor-
shiping and, of course, eating! We’ll meet from 5-6:30 to Eat, Greet, Play, and
Pray (usually 2nd Sundays, with two exceptions*).

October 14 – Theme: World Communion
November 11 – Theme: Stewardship
December 9 – At the Manger
January 13 – Theme: Baptism
February 10 – Theme: Exodus
March 10 – Theme: Lent
April 14 – Dinner with Disciples
May 19* - Closing Picnic
Youth at Lakeside Youth Group Sunday Nights, 5:30-7:30p.m.
Join us for weekly meals, fellowship, and fun. This fall we’re concentrating on
getting to know each other and getting to know God. Then this spring, we’ll
work in some time to think about Mission and prepare for next summer’s trips
– especially a Senior High trip to Puerto Rico!
Fall Bonding Retreat November 16-18
We’re excited to offer a two-night retreat this November for Middle and Senior
High youth! We’ll travel to a retreat center (TBD) to spend some time in nature
and together with God. Hope you can join!
Adult Education Introducing ENGAGE Throughout the 2018-2019 season, our Adult Education offerings will share a
common theme: engage. Each class, series, or event will strive to reach be-
yond that meeting time or the specific
people in the classroom. For each
‘engage’ program, we will build in time
to ask: How do we engage this further?
Can I incorporate this into my life of
faith? How do we bring what we are
learning to the rest of Lakeside? And,
are we called to bring a part of this to
our larger neighborhood or world?
Sunday Morning Offerings 9:45-10:45a.m. Weekly
Engage: Spirituality Learn how your personality matches with various spiritual dis-
ciplines. Working with the Myers-Briggs models, Rev. Bill Love
will talk about how particular approaches to prayer and prac-
tice work better for different people and personalities.
Engage: Faith Get honest about faith and doubt. Beginning with an honest
engagement of where we face doubts in our faith and life, Rev.
Louisa Umphres will approach the Christian understanding of
‘doubt’ from a variety of angles.
Engage: Advent Explore the season of waiting and wanting with us.
Engage: Mission As we approach a new partnership with churches in Puerto
Rico, this class will study the island together in conjunction
with appropriate scripture and based on materials recommend-
ed by PC(USA) churches on the ground there.
Sep 9 - Oct 7
Oct 14 - Nov 18
Dec 2 - 16
Jan 6 - Jan 20
Engage: Scripture Rev. Marc Zumhagen guides as we take a look at the Bible with
fresh eyes. Following the “Strange Book of Books” series, each
week will delve into scripture looking through lenses like
‘Myths,’ ‘Propaganda,’ and ‘Exile.’
Engage: Gospel This series begins with reclaiming and sharing your own story of
transformation and the story of God’s redemptive mission found
in Scripture. We are often afraid of telling our faith stories. Join
this class as we explore ways of beginning to tap into our own
biographies and journeys. No need to be a writer or consider
yourself a great story-teller… show up and let’s see how the Spir-
it is moving in our individual and communal lives. Led by Louisa.
Weekday Offerings
Engage: Lectionary Every Tuesday, 12p.m. This Bible Study will meet weekly with Louisa to pray, read, and discuss the
scriptures for the upcoming Sunday worship. Bring a sack lunch or just show up
at noon!
Engage: Community First Wednesdays, 6:30p.m. Join for monthly adult education
evenings. We will have speakers,
guests, or programs that can help
us engage with issues relevant to
our neighborhoods and communi-
ties. Sometimes we’ll also eat to-
gether!
Jan 27 - Mar 4
Mar 10 - Apr 14
We’ll ask: how do we share what we
learn to deepen our faith, grow our
church, and serve our community?
