The Procedure to Make Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO)
From Fermentation Pure coconut oil or virgin coconut oil (VCO)
can be made in several ways. One of the way for making VCO is by
fermentation. This fermentation is quite simple and easy to be made
on a household scale. The best quality of VCO, lauric acid in the
VCO shows the quality of the VCO, is which have the highest levels
of lauric acid. Therefore, more content of lauric acid is better.
As for the equipments and ingredients to make VCO are gauze,
measuring glass, beaker glass, funnel, stative or aqua bottle, pan,
napkin, steril gloves, 1 kg of grated coconut, coconut water, a
clove of garlic and 900 ml of water.Making VCO by using fermation
method is very easy, and we can try to make it at home. There
following description will explain about the steps to produce
Virgin Coconut Oil. There is two kinds of procedure to make VCO.
The first procedure is making a starter. In that cause we using
garlic to become the starter. You must know to make VCO with
fermentation method we need the enzymes that are produced by
Saccharomyces sp. Enzymes ,are produced by Saccharomyces sp, is
released into the environment around the fungus to destroy the
substrate where they grow into organic soluble compounds. Generally
they are carbohydrate compounds in the seed endosperm of the
coconut. Firstly, take five cloves of garlic. After that pound it
with mortal until smooth. And then, put it into beaker glass. After
you finish making starter. You will continue the procedure to make
VCO. The first step is prepare the equipments and ingredients that
will be used. After that, sterilize the equipments using hot water
or alcohol. Next, peel coconut fiber and separate from the shell
and husk discarded. Forth, cut the coconut then wash and shred it.
After you have grated the coconut, strain the grated coconut until
we get coconut milk by using napkin into a beaker glass. The fifth
step is enter 150 ml of coconut milk into a beaker glass and then
mix the coconut milk with 50 ml of coconut water. After that add a
starter that has been prepared before. Later on shake all of the
ingredients until they bocome homogenous. Then, put it into plastic
bottle. Before that you must cut the bottom of the plastic bottle
but do not break it up. Dont forget to cover the bottle with gauze
to make it easy in screening. Next, incubate the ingredients until
eight hours in room temperature and make sure in the open state.
After the fermentation runs, liquids will separate into three
layers. The top layer, which is a viscous liquid, is a blondo. The
middle and also the bottom are fluid. Then, do the observation in 3
days until the oil layer is formed. Finally, take a layer of oil
that is on the second layer by firstly throwing the dirt liquid
that is on the bottom layer. You will get 10 ml of VCO. THE
