Cover illustration: Quarry face in Lower Coal Measures at Haycliffe Hill Brickworks [SE 140 310], Bradford in July 1926 (BGS photograph A3613). The erosive-based sandstone at the top of the face is the Clifton Rock, one of the westerly-derived beds identified by heavy mineral and palaeocurrent studies described by Hallsworth & Chisholm in this volume. The brickpit is now infilled but a small exposure of the Clifton Rock remains and provided one of the sample sites used in the study. Details of the section visible in 1926 are given by Wray et al. (1930, p. 78). [The photograph is reproduced by permission of the Director, British Geological Survey ©NERC. All rights reserved. (IPR/3-26).]
