In response to detailedevidence highlighting thetransition age fromprimary to secondarystage education as pivotalto raising future aspirationswe have devised ourinnovative ‘MovingForward’ programme.

By raising awareness and aspirations ata crucial time in a student’sdevelopment we provide aspringboard into the range of activitiesin the LPF through successive years.

Often a child’s first experience ofuniversity the four interventions, bothon and off campus, engage students, parents and teachers with theconcepts of progression to further andhigher education.

Visit 1 – In School Students work with StudentAmbassadors on a range of activitiesthat introduce the concept ofuniversity and progression pathways.

Visit 2 – On Campus In teams and working with StudentAmbassadors, students explorethe campus through a treasurehunt activity and play the ‘StarStudent’ game.

The ‘Star Student’ game is aninnovative giant floor game that hasbeen developed by NorthumbriaUniversity specifically for students ontheir transition between primary andsecondary education. The gameintroduces the concept of further andhigher education in a fun andinteractive way.

Visit 3 – In School Following on from the campus visit,Student Ambassadors return toschool to work with students onactivities looking at skills, hobbies andinterests and courses available atdegree level.

Visit 4 – Mini Graduation Eveningwith Parents/Carers The mini graduation evening gives anopportunity for teachers, parents, carers and students to celebrate theirsuccess throughout the programme. The finale is a graduation ceremonywhere students are presented with aStar Student Graduation Certificate.
