Happy New Year, AAUW members. We are off to another year of activities and fellowship. I just came from our January Branch meeting. Although I have been a supporter of Planned Parenthood for many years, Jodi Ligget brought new understanding of the many services that are offered and challenges they face. We also got to see Sharon Gale’s entry in the 2018 AAUW Art contest. Her design is titled “Whimsical” and it is lovely. You can vote for Sharon’s design between February 6 and March 4 at [email protected]. Specific directions will be on the website.
Our annual state AAUW Legislative Day is February 20. We may have our largest delegation ever! Thirteen members expressed interest in going to the Capitol in support of the Equal Rights Amendment. Since Nevada recently adopted the amendment, only two more states are needed. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Arizona could be one of them? I will be wearing my “ERA Yes” pin that I wore as I marched in Springfield, the capitol of Illinois after the pas-sage of the amendment in 1972. Representative Pam Powers Han-nley will the featured speaker, along with Rep. Michelle Ugenti-Riva and Rep. Athena Salman. Legislative Day is always fun and informa-tive. Our Representative, JD Mesnard has been invited to offer wel-coming remarks and we will try to make arrangements to meet with our other Legislators. I am looking forward to seeing you at the International Din-ner on February 19. I am proud to be a member of our active and vibrant Southeast Valley Branch of AAUW, and I hope you are too.
