THE NEW RENAULT TRUCKS LONG DISTANCE RANGE
Renault Trucks has taken advantage of the proposed new Euro 6 standard to
completely renew its Long Distance range. Designed and developed in collaboration
with fifty customers from around the world, the T has been subjected to the most
extensive and thorough series of tests in the company’s history. The Renault Trucks T
is a unique, modular vehicle from the new Long Distance range, with a spacious,
highly aerodynamic cab. Offering the perfect compromise between fuel savings and
life on board, it has been designed as a tool serving both driver and haulier - so both
can do their jobs as effectively and efficiently as possible.
With this new Long Distance range, Renault Trucks has introduced a homogeneous offering,
consisting of a single vehicle whose modular design means that all customer needs can be
met right across the long distance transport sector. The Renault Trucks T” has been
designed to offer haulage companies the perfect balance between fuel savings and life on
board. With its aerodynamic cab, developed and tested with the aid of a wind tunnel, the T
combines the Premium Long Distance’s efficiency and low fuel consumption with the
Magnum’s comfort and prestige – in a single new vehicle. It also offers an improved
powertrain with new Euro 6 engines, and a totally new cab.
The design of the Renault Trucks T incorporates all the essential qualities of this new range.
Every element has been designed to fulfil a specific function, perform efficiently on the road
and at the same time make its owner and driver proud. The T’s overall design and that of its
various equipments guarantee high comfort and safety levels for its driver.
Loyal to the precepts of the Premium Long Distance, Renault Trucks’ new T range helps cut
its owner’s fuel costs, as its performance-improving design and new powertrain enables the T
to achieve some of the lowest fuel-consumption figures on the market. These are down by up
to 5% compared to the previous generation despite constraints imposed by the new Euro 6
standard.
Renault Trucks’ new Long Distance range has been designed and developed in close
collaboration with fifty customers from all over the world, from the design stage right through
to operational testing. The manufacturer subjected the vehicles to the most thorough and
extensive reliability and endurance tests in the company’s history, with the new range

The new Long Distance range offers numerous unprecedented benefits. At 2.5 metres wide, the
Renault Trucks T cab is more spacious, more comfortable, and has an extendable bunk as well as an
upper bunk that can be used for extra storage ifrequired. The engine tunnel is now just 200mm high
and completely disappears in the flat floor version. The optimised driving position boasts new seats
designed by RECARO® for Renault Trucks, an ergonomic dashboard with 7 inch central display (the
largest on the market), and the option of rearranging the positions of the control buttons. The T also
offers a storage compartment that can be accessed both from inside and outside the vehicle, plus a
door opening angle of 85°. Drivers have the benefit of a number of driver safety aids, including
cornering lights and a multi-function three-way adjustable driving wheel.
As for engines, the Renault Trucks T features Euro 6 DTI 11 and DTI 13 engines. The whole range is
fitted with the Optidriver automatic transmission, which now has a new gear change management
system. The T also boasts a brand new air control system (Electronic Air Control Unit or EACU), a
variable flow steering pump to improve consumption and Diesel tank capacity of up to 1,475 litres.
Maintenance has been made easier by separating the electrical harness path from the hydraulic
harness path in the vehicle body, with electrics on the right and hydraulics on the left.
If the need arises, drivers have a “24/7” button within easy reach to instantly geolocate their vehicle
and report all its technical data, making it even easier for one of Renault Trucks’ 1,600 sales and
service outlets worldwide to take charge of the vehicle. The T is also configured to integrate Optifleet,
the Renault Trucks fleet management solution that increases operational profitability. In addition,
Renault Trucks is maintaining its proven fuel saving solutions, including Optifuel Infomax, which
analyses performance, monitors fuel consumption, and, when combined with Renault Trucks
instruction in fuel-efficient driving, (already used to train over 25,000 drivers to date), can reduce
overall fuel consumption by up to 15% across an entire fleet.
Renault Trucks has developed its new Long Distance spearhead with customer productivity in mind,
making it as efficient a vehicle as possible so that haulage contractors can achieve their objective
profitably. For Renault Trucks, a truck is a profit centre that should never let its customers down,
always protect their business and be a constant source of pride for its driver.
A truck is a profit centre
To ensure that their new trucks are a genuine source of profit, Renault Trucks has made fuel savings
the central design focus from the outset. The truck as a whole, the cab and every element of the
powertrain have all been designed to promote fuel savings. Thus the windscreen is inclined by 12°
and the cab itself is trapezoid in shape, being 2.35 metres wide at the front and 2.50 metres wide at
the back, improving its air penetration coefficient (cx) by up to 12%, all of which means the T can boast
fuel consumption levels 5% below the previous generation of vehicles. The T improves productivity by
offering a GCW (gross combined weight rating) of up to 60 tonne and a fuel tank capacity of up to
1,475 litres for long journeys.

Renault Trucks has designed its new range with the aim of optimising the vehicles’ overall use value,
employing its exhaustive expertise to develop a comprehensive transport system to its customers’ best
advantage. The manufacturer is committed to giving its customers guidance and support throughout
the vehicle’s life, as well as providing high performance solutions with respect to finance, insurance,
fuel consumption, training in fuel-efficient driving, and local services ensuring effective servicing and
maintenance to reduce down-time costs. The Renault Trucks T is therefore still available with the
Optifuel Programme, combining training in fuel-efficient driving delivered by Renault Trucks experts
(Optifuel Training), and Optifuel Infomax, software for measuring and analysing truck fuel consumption.
Furthermore, all T vehicles are configured to integrate Optifleet, an embedded fleet management
solution that can help owners save up to €5,000 per year per vehicle.
A truck should never let a customer down
Truck reliability must be dealt with well in advance of the first turn of the wheels, which is why from the
very outset Renault Trucks developed high performance methods and tools to use in designing the T,
to guarantee its customers failsafe reliability. “For these new ranges we’ve been conducting
simultaneous engineering to an unprecedented extent,” explains Thierry Hours, vice-president
responsible for renewal of Renault Trucks Construction and Long Distance ranges. “All the
departments involved, from design to Aftersales, worked together from start to finish.” The design and
production of every one of the 6,500 parts that make up the Renault Trucks T also play an essential
role: “The process determines how reliable the truck will be on the road,” he adds. “That’s why we were
totally inflexible when it came to the validation process.”
The Renault Trucks T was subjected to the most extensive and thorough reliability and endurance
tests ever conducted by Renault Trucks. Over a period of seven years, 300 test vehicles from the Long
Distance range underwent five million hours of bench tests, travelled ten million kilometres in extreme
conditions, and were tested under actual operating conditions by fifty customers across the world.
All these tests confirmed the ruggedness of the Renault Trucks T. The cab has a new suspension
system combining robustness and comfort. The chassis also has a new, robust hydraulic front
suspension assembly suitable for long distances. The weight-optimised rear suspension assembly has
two air cushions. At the same time, vehicle ruggedness is guaranteed by the high limit elastic steel
chassis and partly riveted side members. In addition, Renault Trucks offers other chassis
strengthening solutions to suit the whole range of transport activities.
Renault Trucks has also ensured that customers can obtain effective assistance quickly if needed, as
the T has a new assistance button on the dashboard to put drivers in touch with the 24/7 service
immediately. The button not only geolocalises the vehicle in a matter of seconds, it also reports all the
technical data. The 24/7 button can reduce the time taken to reach the vehicle and carry out repairs, as
well as determine the nature of the breakdown. Thanks to this innovative new system and the
company’s network of 1,600 sales and service points, Renault Trucks is able to guarantee a fast
response and reduce downtime to a minimum.

A truck should make its drivers proud
The first source of pride for drivers is the design of their truck. With its imposing “π” shaped radiator
grille and boomerang indicator light layout, the Renault Trucks T exudes relentless determination.
“When we designed these trucks we wanted to make people feel proud,” says Hervé Bertrand, head of
design at Renault Trucks. “Proud to be driving them, proud to own them, proud to be using a great tool
to do their job, one which is vital for society to function - delivering goods.”
When it comes to long distance transport, one priority for drivers is the quality of life on-board. With a
basic cab that is larger than those on the Premium Long Distance, four different cab versions, and a
width of 2.5 metre, the Renault Trucks T offers the perfect working and resting environment for long-
distance drivers. The High Sleeper Cab version of the T has a completely flat floor, and for cabs with
engine tunnels, this has been lowered to just 200mm. Great care has been taken in designing the
seats, which can be adjusted to the driver’s body-shape. Designed for Renault Trucks by RECARO®,
they are more user-friendly and comfortable, offering an excellent level of comfort on even the longest
journey. The height, depth and angle of the steering wheel can also be adjusted.
Furthermore, drivers can adapt their driving space in line with their own personal preferences. The
positions of the various buttons on the dashboard can be rearranged, after which the controls are
reconfigured accordingly.
The drivers can save their preferences and settings as a favourites page displayed on the main
screen, the tachograph, heating or air-conditioning settings, alarm clock, type of fuel-efficient driving,
and pre-set cruise control speed. Saving time every time drivers are ready to set off, all this data can
be accessed just by inserting their driver’s card.
A truck should protect customers’ businesses
By guaranteeing the safety of their drivers and other road-users, Renault Trucks is not just protecting
them from harm but ensuring that their customers can continue to go about their business without
interruption. Renault Trucks has equipped the T with driver-assist technologies which, whilst not
replacing drivers, emit a warning sound if they detect any kind of negligence on their part. For
example, the driver hears a warning sound if the truck accidentally changes direction or is about to hit
something head on. Similarly, the Renault Trucks T has an active adaptable cruise control system
which automatically ensures that the truck remains a minimum distance behind the vehicle in front.
Lastly, to guarantee maximum driver safety, the T has a fully electronic parking brake that locks
automatically whenever the vehicle is at a standstill.

ACTIVITIES
The Renault Trucks Long Distance Range meets the needs of everyone operating in the road haulage
sector - industrial transport, controlled temperature transport, tanker transport, and livestock transport.
Above all, customers in the first two categories seek to reduce operating costs to a minimum and
maintain efficient journey speeds, making a Sleeper (available on the DTI 13 and DTI 11) or High
Sleeper the perfect choice. Tanker transport hauliers, for whom load capacity is the main concern, will
opt for a Day or Night & Day cab and a DTI 11 engine. Customers transporting livestock and looking
for maximum driver comfort in a prestige vehicle will choose the High Sleeper Cab version of the T,
which has a flat floor and a DTI 13 engine of up to 520 hp.
POWERTRAIN
The T boasts an improved powertrain and new Euro 6 standard engines. The homogenised range
enables similar services to be offered whatever the purpose for which the truck has been configured,
making vehicle maintenance easier yet cheaper for the customer. Improved engines and axles, the
new functions of the automatic transmission, and the ‘intelligent’ use of the air compressor and air
conditioning systems - which are only used when really necessary - mean that customers can rely on
maximum performance and minimum energy consumption.
Euro 6 Engines
Renault Trucks used its Euro 5 engine blocks as the basis for developing the new Euro 6 DTI 11 and
DTI 13 engines and also decided to optimise SCR technology. The original blocks, already well-known
for their efficiency and low fuel consumption, underwent major modification, involving over 50% of their
design. The SCR system was revised and made more efficient. The use of new materials in its
manufacture improved catalytic reduction performance and efficiently reduced the NOx emissions. It
has now also been fitted with a particulate filter.
The Renault Trucks heavy duty range offers a choice of two engines, an 11 litre Euro 6 block and a 13
litre Euro 6 block.

Transmissions
An acknowledged market leader with respect to performance, the Optidriver automatic transmission is
fitted as standard to all Renault Trucks T models. It features a new electronic gear-change system, and
a new ratio selector with temperature control for more effective cooling. The Optidriver transmission
can also be combined with the new Fuel Eco mode, coupled with Eco Cruise Control. This changes the
gear-shifting strategy so that it prioritises fuel savings above all else.
Customers can opt for manual transmission with the Volvo Group’s B14 gear-box, which is particularly
robust and offers a Driving Monitoring System telling drivers which gear to use.
Retarders
Three types of retarder are available for the Euro 6 engines:
- An exhaust brake, which develops a power output of 203 kW on the DTI 11 and 227 kW on the
DTI 13,
- The Optibrake system on the DTI 11, with a power output of 303 kW and, on the DTI 13, Optibrake+
which, with a power output of 414 kW, is the most powerful engine retarder on the market. These are
fitted on all vehicles with automatic transmission,
- The Voith hydraulic retarder on the transmission which delivers a power output of 450 kW on the DTI
11 and DTI 13. The control for the Voith retarder is now located on the driver's right.
Drive axles
For its new Long Distance range, Renault Trucks offers axle ratios to suit the various types of long
distance haulage:
- The single reduction P13170, with a ratio of 2.64 to 3.70
- The double reduction P1361, with a ratio of 3.46 to 5.41
The T offers a GCW of up to 60 tons and a 1,475 litre tank for longer journeys.
New air management system
Renault Trucks now offers a brand new air management system, the EACU (Electronic Air Control
Unit), developed with optimum efficiency and reliability in mind. The unit filters and dries the
compressed air, adjusts the air pressure and controls the air compressor. The air control unit also
helps to reduce fuel consumption, by disengaging the air compressor and starting the ‘energy-saving’
system when air pressure is at a satisfactory level. Similarly, when going downhill the EACU increases
engine restraint by activating the air compressor. Conversely, when the engine is having to work hard,
the system forces the compressor to disengage. In addition, it also has an automatic parking brake
which is activated whenever the engine stops – a unique system exclusive to the Volvo Group.

Fuel-saving components and accessories
Renault Trucks has acquired considerable expertise in fuel saving technology and this, coupled with
research conducted by Optifuel Lab, has enabled the manufacturer to offer a number of solutions
designed with the specific purpose of reducing fuel consumption on the T range.
To avoid wasting energy and increasing consumption unnecessarily, the Renault Trucks T range
features a number of components that can be disconnected if they are not essential or simply not
used, thereby reducing overall power consumption.
This is the case of the air compressor, the variable flow steering pump and the air-conditioning system,
which, when in Opti mode, ensures optimum air recycling. Other fuel-saving technologies include Eco
Cruise Control, which increases driver comfort, optimises journey speed and reduces fuel
consumption. Drivers have a choice of three modes of operation and can make adaptations to suit their
particular needs, by prioritising either reducing fuel consumption, achieving the best
consumption/speed compromise, or exactly maintaining the set journey speed. It also works in tandem
with the Optiroll system, which engages controlled freewheeling whenever conditions are suitable.
Furthermore, the vehicle’s power mode can be restrained, so as to reduce time spent driving outside
the ‘green zone’ to a minimum, and the Renault Trucks T can also be fitted with an automatic three or
five minute engine stop-start mechanism to end wasteful engine idling.
CAB
Overview
Four types of cab are available for the Renault Trucks T range:
Day Cab
- Short cab, standard roof, 200mm tunnel, without bunk, three steps (DTI 11 engine only)
Night & Day Cab

Fuel-saving cab
The T cab, exclusive to Renault Trucks, was developed to promote fuel savings. The best illustrations
of this are its windscreen, set at an angle of 12°, its trapezoid form, 2.3 metre wide at the front and 2.4
metre wide at the rear, and its integrated reflector optics. Even greater savings can be made with
optional roof and side deflectors, side fairings (with or without extensions) and door extensions.
A cab that puts safety first
The Renault Trucks T offers a number of safety features, such as driver assist mechanisms, which are
designed to warn drivers rather than replace them. For Renault Trucks, safety is primarily a matter for
drivers, who must drive sensibly and ensure that they are always in control. Three mechanisms are
fitted as standard. An alarm sounds if the vehicle accidentally changes direction, while the adaptable
cruise control system ensures that there is always a safe distance between the truck and the vehicle in
front, and an accident alert sounds if the truck seems likely to collide with something in front of it.
The Renault Trucks T also features automatic windscreen wipers, and automatic headlamps and
cornering lights for safer night driving.
As for passive safety, tractor versions are fitted with fifth wheel lock sensors, and the new seat
mountings comply with standard CEE R14. Two wide steps integrated into the radiator grille make it
easier to reach the wind-screen.
A comfortable cab
Driver comfort is key on the Long Distance market, and was therefore a vital consideration in
developing this new range.
Access to the Renault Trucks T was designed to be as easy as possible, starting with a mechanism
allowing drivers to switch their vehicle’s lights on with the key as they approach, so that they can see
where they are going. The doors have an 85° opening angle, and the cabs have either three or four
lighted, non-slip steps.
The Renault Trucks T offers drivers a storage area accessible from both inside and out, so that they
can put their belongings away and then take them out again without having to go outside and run the
risk of bringing dirt into the cab. Similarly, door extensions mean that shoes can be kept out of the rain
without necessitating storage inside the vehicle.
Once seated, drivers will enjoy the comfortable new seats RECARO® has designed for Renault Trucks.
The heated and ventilated suspended seats provide a headrest, and adjustable lateral and lumbar
support, and can be pushed back to obtain the best possible driving position with leg-room of up to
980mm, sufficient for even the tallest driver. The seats also feature a red safety belt, a distinguishing
characteristic of the new Renault Trucks T range. The height, depth and angle of the steering wheel
can also be adjusted, or it can be locked in the highest position to make it easier to get in and out of
the vehicle.

The main function controls are all close to the steering wheel, and drivers can therefore easily browse
through the various menus on the 7 inch colour screen, using the thumbwheels at their fingertips. The
telephone, radio and cruise control mechanism can also be activated without the driver’s eyes having
to leave the road.
In addition, drivers can adapt the driving position to suit their own personal preferences, as the position
of the buttons on the dashboard can easily be rearranged.
On-board comfort
The main obstacle to moving about in a cab is the engine tunnel, which is why it has been reduced by
half to just 200mm, in cabs that have one. However, loyal to its predecessor the Magnum, the Renault
Trucks T is also available with a completely flat floor.
Two roof heights are available: standard (Day Cab and Night & Day Cab) and high (High Sleeper and
Sleeper Cab), with the latter offering maximum headroom of up to 2.10 metres.
The interior of the T has been designed to provide a clear separation between the driving area and the
L-shaped rest area, formed by the passenger seat, which can be swivelled round, and the lower and/or
upper bunk(s), depending on the version selected. The lower bunk has a mattress which can be
extended to a width of 800mm. The upper bunk has an integrated ladder, which can be partly folded
back if not needed, providing the driver with extra storage space. The storage areas were designed in
collaboration with partner customers based on a basket comprising the main products and accessories
drivers tend to use on board their trucks, while the design of the storage space in the roof of the cab is
intended to give an overall feeling of lightness and space. All the storage compartments have been
made from a special material that has a more pleasant feel to it than traditional plastic. Drivers also
have a 24 litre fridge (or up to 40 litres in the flat floor version).
The colour scheme was carefully chosen: “We used dark colours for the lower half so that stains and
wear would be less noticeable,” explained Hervé Bertrand, head of design at Renault Trucks. “The
higher you go, the lighter the colour, which makes things seem brighter and more spacious. The lighter
colours are also more restful for the eyes, and so they make driving less tiring.”
The whole atmosphere inside the cab is totally new. During rest periods, spotlights provide soft
lighting, while for night-driving the lights are red, creating a particular atmosphere that is much
appreciated by drivers. “It’s the only colour that doesn’t bother drivers at night,” explains Hervé
Bertrand. “In fact, it’s the colour they use in submarines.”
Once comfortably on their bunks, Renault Trucks T drivers have a remote control at hand, so that they
can operate the cab lights, radio, telephone, heating, air-conditioning, and door locks, and open and
close the windows and hatch to the roof. Daylight-reflecting black-out curtains guarantee a good night’s
sleep even in the daytime, as well as preventing the cab from getting too hot inside even when the
vehicle is parked in the sun. Such comfortable and ergonomically designed driving and rest areas
make for increased efficiency, improved rest and recuperation - and safer driving.

CHASSIS
Rugged and reliable
The new Renault Trucks Long Distance range has been designed with robust components, systems
and solutions that have been subjected to numerous endurance and reliability tests. Both chassis and
cab have been designed to guarantee resistance and dependability. The cab’s robust structure is
matched by the chassis, which is built with high limit elastic steel, parts of which are riveted.
Customers can also choose from a wide range of chassis reinforcements and select the side member
width and height that best suits their needs. Similarly, the rear chassis overhang length can be
customised in 50mm sections. Lastly, Renault Trucks has separated the electrical harness path from
the hydraulic harness path to make maintenance easier, with electrics on the right and hydraulics on
the left.
Body mounting provisions
The Renault Trucks T chassis has been designed to meet the various requirements of bodybuilders,
making their job easier by including pre-drilling as standard, and ensuring that nothing protrudes above
the frame and that there are no top-row rivets. This also means they can offer a wider choice of body
solutions. The vehicles also have a new bodywork unit ready to receive special bodywork connection
boxes and switches.
Cabs have three bulkhead connectors: two at the rear (one on each side) and one at the front (on the
passenger side). Renault Trucks provides bodybuilders with a plan of the exact chassis configuration
of the vehicle ordered, plus a website and dedicated online help service, which they can access at
