IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
What to Do About Itchy & Swollen Eyes
Itchy, swollen eyes are often caused by the same
allergens that cause nasal allergies. These allergies occur
most in the spring and fall, according to the Baylor
College of Medicine in Houston. Allergens that affect the eyes are trees, weeds and grass pollen, mold spores
and pet dander.
In many cases, prevention is the best way to prevent eye
discomfort. Watch your local weather station to inform yourself of pollen count warnings and stay inside as
much as possible during days with high allergy risk. Use
an air filter to clean air as it enters your home and keep your windows closed as much as possible to prevent
irritants from getting inside.
If your eyes are infected, rinsing them with a cool
compress can provide relief. You can also use Artificial Tears(available over the counter) to flush out irritants and
relieve itching. Medications designed for nasal allergies
can help sooth the itching and swelling caused by
irritated eyes. In some cases, your doctor might prescribe special eye drops or medication with antihistamines to
stop the reaction. Though temptation is strong, avoid
rubbing and even touching your eyes to relieve the itching, doing so may prolong your discomfort.
Though itchy and swollen eyes are most commonly
caused by allergic reactions and can usually be treated at
home, if your discomfort persists for more than a few days, if you observe discharge in the affected eye, if you
experience light sensitivity or eye pain, or if you notice
decreased vision, you should call your health care provider. These symptoms can suggest a more serious
cause for your eye irritation, such as bacterial infection or
conjunctivitis.

Caring is the Key in Life
GREAT THINGS HAPPEN AT THE BROKEN ARROW SENIOR CENTER
Marilyn Heine moved to Broken Arrow from New Hampshire and became a
member of the Broken Arrow Senior Center in 1997. Dick Saul moved from
California and also became a member in 1997.
The two knew each other from playing Dominos and cards here at the Center, but
never associated with each other after leaving here.
One Sunday (this last February) Marilyn saw Dick at First
Methodist Church and went over to talk to him after the service. She had been
going to the church, but had never seen him there. The reason being – he had never
attended that church before - - it was his first time to visit that particular church.
Marilyn believes that it was a “divine appointment” as she was totally surprised and
happy to see him there that day. He later called her and asked her out for a
Valentine date. When he arrived to pick her up he had a bouquet of red roses for
her that lit the flame and started the beautiful romance for them.
Marilyn Heine became Mrs. Dick Saul on June 18, 2011. Since that fateful day Dick claims that he “no
longer has to come home to an empty house” and, Marilyn claims, “we work well together AND he makes a
great breakfast, and I clean up the dishes”.
I’ve gotten to the age
where I need my
false teeth and hear-
ing aid before I can
ask where I left my
glasses.
