Brothers and Sisters,

On April 21, 2011 ARAMARK, as a business, exited GE Evendale. Prior to that event, a closing agreement was negotiated with ARA. Sodexo food service entered the site on April 25, 2011. Immediately, UAW Local 647 demanded recognition for Unit #11 of our Amalgamated Union and Sodexo honored that request. I am proud of the unity of this Bargaining Unit on their solidarity through these tough and sometimes spirited talks.

Earlier this year, GE told the UAW of their intent to go tobacco free at all GE locations globally in 2011. On Wednesday, September 28, 2011, Mark Coad (UR/HR GE Evendale) informed the Evendale UAW Bargaining Committee of the company’s intent to go tobacco free at the GE Evendale site on November 1, 2011. This subject has been a matter of debate all year due to the sensitivity of the issue. The UAW believes the company is over reaching as well as being unreasonable! We are in compliance with the law on this legal substance and are very concerned the company has a larger agenda…the UAW seems to be more concerned about making schedule than the company. The UAW has full intent to address this issue at the appropriate time.

On Monday, November 14, 2011, from 10 am – 3:00 pm, Maxim Health Systems will administer flu shots at UAW Local 647 for GE employees, retirees, spouses, children 16 years and over; you must bring your insurance card. All GE employees who have a GE badge, spouses and dependents 16 years and over receive the vaccination free of charge regardless of their health benefits. Retirees should notify staff if Medicare is their primary insurance. If Medicare is not their primary insurance their vaccination is free of charge. Those not covered (non GE employees) may receive a flu shot for $30.00.

CHAPLAINCY COMMITTEE REPORT

UAW NEWSLETTER PAGE 3

On Saturday August 27th the Chaplaincy Committee held its 6th Annual Prayer Breakfast and Fellowship at our UAW Local 647 Union Hall. The event was open to all the membership their families, retirees, the community and there were well over 200 hundred in attendance. The theme this year was, “When Life Hurts The Most, God Is Our Hope.” Everything that transpired during this event was well orchestrated around this theme and many there were touched by the messages and ministry, as well as the prayers offered. The keynote speaker, Sister Renita Hills, from Indianapolis, Ind., blessed the audience with her message of hope and perseverance, with God’s help, through unthinkable and unimaginable circumstances. She shared how God helped her overcome being beaten, stabbed and left for dead, by an enraged assailant, and her being enabled to move past the hurt, pain, the unforgiveness and bitterness to a life of victory and triumph over those things, through God’s grace. Before Sister Hills message, everyone sat attentively and listened as Sister Gail Linville shared the testimony of her daughter’s horrific and tragic experience at the hands of a murderer/rapist, resulting in the murder of three precious children, leaving many life altering scars in Kristy’s and the family’s lives. She presented hope as she told how God’s grace and His Word has helped them to deal with the aftermath of senseless violence and inconsolable hurt. Ms. Linville sealed her message with a video, assembled by her son, which paired the images of violence perpetrated on her family, and the images of the violence done to Christ on the Cross, with her self-authored Psalm, which helped bring the rambling insanity of the events of their lives into perspective with God’s merciful grace. From Brother Gerry Logan’s opening remarks and Sister Jane Wright’s opening prayer, to the variety of spiritual and uplifting songs by the groups of anointed singers, to everyone who had a need came forward to be prayed for by the Chaplaincy Team, the morning was an awesome testimony to the power and grace of God, and the hope we have in Him through life’s most difficult and trying circumstances. The singing was delightful, energetic, uplifting and brought joy and comfort to the vibrant crowd. The atmosphere was charged with spiritual excitement and no one left that day untouched by the reality that there is hope for the hurting and help for the broken hearted. We are quite thankful as well, to all of those that supported the event with donations, their time and prayers to make this event the success that it was. Many donations of food and gifts to give away came in from several sources. And, thanks to Barbara Lewis, Lois Jett, Chris & Renee Boyd, Janet Kirkland, Gertie Lewis, Debbie Logan and Ruth Early from UAW 647 that cooked the delicious breakfast that everyone enjoyed. The food was spectacular and served piping hot from a friendly and willing group of special ladies. Our appreciation goes out to Darrell Curry, The Intercessory Prayer Team, Clarence Fischer, Pam McConnaughey, Carolyn Stevens, Bob Riegler, Lisa Frazier, Bobbi Morgan, Sodexo Food Services and everyone who helped put this together, kudos to Brother Logan, who pulled this together later than usual in such a busy year. We received many prayer requests and we want everyone to know we encourage the members, their families, and anyone who may have a situation we can help pray about, to submit them. We take them serious and someone on the Chaplaincy Team or in the GE Prayer Group is praying for each need. Our network is growing and the effectiveness of our on-going “caring in the workplace,” is at the heart of everything that we do. We are here to serve, and in times such as we find ourselves today, God is our Hope. The Chaplaincy Team is getting ready for the up-coming Holiday season and this December we will once again be visiting the two nursing homes that we have adopted as part of our outreach. We will once again be asking for donations for blankets, slippers, gloves and all the other things that the people residing in these facilities can use. Please make this a priority in your Holiday giving. These folks have been so blessed by your generosity in the past and we certainly want to bless them again this year. Thank you in advance for your kind consideration. The Chaplaincy Committee in cooperation with the GE Prayer Group would also like to inform the membership that there will be Prayer Request Boxes stationed throughout the plant. The first one is located in building 700 across from the Project Room, where the Prayer Group meets each day at 9:00AM for prayer. Soon we will have one in each building and they will be serviced on a regular basis. Please use these boxes to submit any and all prayer requests and provide whatever information you can in order to help the group pray specifically for your needs. Thank you for supporting the UAW Local 647 Chaplaincy Committee. It is the hope of Chaplain Gerry Logan and this team that each and every member know, that regardless of what kind of situations exist, there is hope and there is help from God and that you have a place in which to turn in the time of trouble. It is our goal to share the love and caring attitude in and among the membership and the community at large. If there is anything that we may assist you with please do not hesitate to call on this team. May God richly bless you.

ONE LIGHT BULB AT A TIME A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn’t slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a good American. Good Idea…One Light Bulb At A Time… Check this out. I can verify this because I was in Lowes the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments. They were all made in China. The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA. Start Looking! In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else, even their job. So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track. Let’s get behind her! My grandson likes Hershey’s candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more. My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico, now I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything. This past weekend I was at Kroger, I needed 60 watt light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, “Everyday Value.” I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats, they were the same, except for the price, the GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in Mexico and the Everyday Value brand was made in, get ready for this the USA by a company in Cleveland, Ohio. So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use everyday that are made right here. So on to another aisle, Bounce dryer sheets, yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada. The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the price! My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA, the job you save may be your own or your neighbors! If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time! Stop buying from overseas companies! WE SHOULD HAVE AWAKENED A DECADE AGO! Let’s get with the program and help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the USA!

SAFETY COMMITTEE REPORT BY DOUG LEHMAN & TIM MASON

Brothers and Sisters, As we approach October, our accident rate is at the level we finished last year 2010, as a VPP site we need to get better every year. We still have three months left in 2011, as a group we need to concentrate on the task we are doing, take a minute to figure out how to do the task safely and look out for your co-workers. GE provides us with anything we need to do our job’s safely!! Let’s take advantage of this, if you need PPE for the job, before you start the job either go to the crib or see your supervisor or call your VPP Coordinator or call your UAW Safety Committeeman there are too many ways to get what we need to do our job’s safely . Not only PPE but the right tools for the job also, if you have WORN or defective tool’s or tooling ask for a new tool, go to the crib get a new tool. If your tooling is worn out talk to your supervisor or planner, if that doesn’t work call us, we will push management to fix it. Safety is EVERYONE’S responsibility!! We need to make an effort these last three months and into next year to make our site as injury free as possible. We are a VPP Star site, let’s be proud of it and strive to work injury free!!!! VPP recertification is coming up in the August to October 2012 time frame let’s be ready and, as one of our own members put it “If you are aware of it take care of it!!!!! VPP is an employee ran program, we own it , let’s sustain it for our future. Doug Lehman 513-368-4815 Tim Mason 513-382-8166 UAW Local 647 Safety Committee

GE EVENDALE IN PLANT

Emergency # 243-2323

This is the number for any emergency. In case of fire, sick employee, injury, etc.

A musculoskeletal disorder is a condition where a part of musculoskeletal system is injured over time.

The disorder occurs when the body part is called on to work harder, stretch farther, impact more directly

or otherwise functions at a greater level then it is prepared for. The immediate impact may be minute, but

when it occurs repeatedly the constant trauma cause damage.

The term musculoskeletal disorder identifies a large group of conditions that result from traumatizing the

body in either a minute or major way over a period of time. It is the buildup of trauma that causes the

disorder.

These conditions are often focused on a joint and affect the muscle and bone. However other areas can

be strained and their response to that trauma can be an injury.

If you have any symptoms or problems from the job you are doing it is important to get a proper evaluation

to determine your risk factors and reduce them to prevent future problems. If you are at work, notify the Ergo

Rep for your area.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your continued support,
