PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
We had a wonderful meeting in February! Wende Wake-man, a Texas Ranger, was a wonderful speaker and had all of us riveted with her slide presentation and interesting sto-ries. We saluted previous FAN Presidents, introduced the Nominating Committee for next year’s officers, announced 50/50 winners … and much more!
Our year is slipping by, with lots more fun things to do. Please avail yourselves of the activities offered at FAN. There is something for everyone ... a vast selection of fun things to do with your FAN friends. This newsletter is a guide to all that’s going on and Cissie Alexander does an outstanding job of creating the newsletter each month. Thank you, Cissie!
Don’t miss the March meeting when Nina Hendee will tell us about “Taste of Texas History”. Our programs have been outstanding, and we have Brenda Hannah to thank for find-ing these great speakers.
April will bring the introduction of a new slate of officers. We are so happy to have talented ladies in the FAN organization who will step up and keep the ball rolling. It takes a village, but guides are a valuable asset. We appreciate our volunteers.
Stay warm and I’ll see you at the March 5th general meeting. Please come up and introduce yourself and give me any ideas, suggestions, or recommendations you want to share. We are happy for input.

CHARITY COMMITTEE

If you volunteer or have any in-volvement in a local nonprofit and would like to put forth a suggestion, please contact me as soon as possi-ble. (Print the form in this newslet-ter.)
Three options will be presented for a member vote at the April General Membership meeting.
The FAN Board of Directors has approved the following changes in our membership drive procedure. Our Activity Leaders see members monthly and not all folks attend General Membership meetings. It is felt the Leader could easily assist in getting membership forms to each member and make it easier for members to renew their membership in a timely fashion and provide the information needed to create our directory. The Board will review the success of this change prior to next year’s Membership Drive. Please give this change a try … we feel it will be easy for all involved!
• Membership Committee will provide membership forms to each Activity Group Leader.
• As a courtesy, the Activity Group Leader will distribute the forms and, if willing, collect the forms and dues from each of their participants and forward to the Membership Chairman.
• Members should be prepared to complete the membership form and pay their $25.00 annual dues. Checks (not cash) are appreciated and should be made payable to FAN.
• This will begin in March. The FAN membership year begins June 1.
• Membership forms are always available at every General Membership meeting. The form can also be printed from the PDF in this newsletter or on the FAN website.

Celebrate Spring, Salute Summer!
Casual fun planned for Spring Luncheon
Good bye, gloomy gray skies, hello Sunshine! Twitch your nose at the heady scent of fresh green grass and spring blooms. It’s time for Country Fare!!
Tuesday, April 30 – the bridge to true spring – is the day. The Hilton Garden Inn, 7979 Willow Chase Boulevard, is the place to be, celebrating the coming summer holiday with FAN friends. The Hilton is just north of FM 1960 and just south of Methodist Willowbrook hospital along Highway 249.
The dress code is comfy, casual playwear -- think denim, seersucker or gingham -- for enjoying a few games on the patio as you sip a refreshing mimosa or sweet tea. Because you’re among friends: no hose, no heels, no Spanx! As you’d expect, the menu is Country Fare, sweetened with lemonade and, perhaps, peach cobbler. Oh, yes, and did we mention prizes? You won’t believe the silly, hilarious competitions being planned. You’ll want to win a blue ribbon, for sure!
Register a party of eight or simply yourself and a pal. Reserved seating at $28 per person will maximize your fun quotient. Sign up at the March 5 or April 2 General Meeting or contact Sharlene Nelson ([email protected]) for reservations. Prime tables reserved on a first-come, first-paid basis. Dead-line for registration or refund requests is April 18. (Print the registration form in this newsletter.)
This group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at different hostess’ homes for coffee. Then on to a fun-filled day of antiqu-ing, eating and shopping.
We travel in carpools. Each person is responsible for the cost of her lunch and $5.00 to her driver.
This month we are meeting at Sharon Schumann’s home at 13923 Cypresswood Crossing Blvd. in the Lake-wood Crossing subdivision on March 20 at 9:00 a.m. Her phone number is 281-370-5582 and her email is [email protected].
From there we will carpool to Tomball and begin our shop-ping in at Old Market Village and then on to Granny's Cor-ner. We will lunch at Cisco's Salsa Company, and finish the day of shopping at Cherry Street Antiques.
Please let BOTH Sharon and me know by noon, March 17 if you are coming. I will email everyone who is coming so you can arrange your own carpools.
All are welcome. If you would like to participate, please contact:
We will be carpooling to SAN MARCOS on March 21 and 22 (Thursday overnight)
I have great plans for things to do in San Marcos and know we will have a great time.
We will visit the Bill Wittliff Collec-tion at Texas State University. Mr. Wit-liff was and outstanding photographer and the director of the Lonesome Dove mini-series and his exhibit is filled with amazing memorabilia from his life.
We will also have a side trip to Gruene for dinner at The Gristmill and a ride on a glass-bottom boat on the San Marcos River!
The cost of the hotel is $55 per person based on double occupancy.
If you need more information or want to sign up for the trip, call me.

An Opportunity to Help ...
One of the neighborhood parishes, St. Ignatius of Loyola on Cypresswood near Champion Forest, is helping again this year with the Easter Brunch for the homeless at Loaves & Fishes, one of the down-town soup kitchens. Last year they fed 500 homeless people.
Along with serving brunch, they try to hand out goodie bags of snacks and toiletries. This was a big hit with the street people who rarely have money for soap or shampoo, toothpaste and the like. Most of the donated goods were ones folks brought home from hotels, etc., the travel sizes.
Last year, they only gathered enough to hand out about 150 bags, which meant that a lot of folks did-n't get one. This year, they're expanding, hoping to have more of the bags. In addition to toiletries, some people brought snack size packages of crackers, cookies, etc., and they slipped those in the bags, too.
They are asking for help from FAN.
If you want to help with this cause, please bring any travel size shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soaps, lotions, or snack size cookies/crackers to the March General Membership meeting. A collection box will be available.
Thanks for your help,
Sue Behnke, President
