to at least the Middle Ages- First recorded game was in

Derby, England in AD 217.

0 The Cambridge Rules were the first set of known rules drawn up in 1848.

0 The Cambridge rules, if you couldn’t tell by their name, were written at Trinity College in Cambridge.

0 The first international match took place in 1872 between England and Scotland, it ended in a 1-1 draw.

How to Play - Regularly played on a grassy

field that is 120 yards long and 75 yards wide.

- Centered on each endline is a goal which is 8 yards wide and 8 feet tall.

- A team consists of 11 players (1 goalie and 10 outfield players)

- Plays two continuous 45 minute periods.

- Object of the game is to advance the ball forward and kick it in your opponents’ goal.

- No hands! (except keepers and throw-ins)- No cherry-picking…offsides will be called.- There are more intricate rules applying to tackles.

- International teams are the teams that the represent whole countries.

- Players are chosen to these teams not for money but for the honor to represent their homelands.
