On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists crashed two major airliners into the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan, causing both of its towers to collapse within a short period of time. Two additional planes were hijacked, one crashing into the Pentagon and the other over a Pennsylvania field.

American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were crashed into the north and south towers of the world trade center, American Airlines Flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 was targeted for Washington D.C. but instead crashed into a Pennsylvania field after passengers overcame the hijackers.
