INTRODUCTION

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES The ultimate aim of our research is to clearly

display the general public’s opinion on plastic products. The awareness level is tested and a qualitative analysis is done to prove the hypothesis. The public’s expectation on government’s move on banning the plastic product that have less than 40 microns is considered as top priority.

The hypothesis refers to a tendative statement. In our research, it describes about the relation between the gender of the respondent and their perception on the plastic usage. This will clearly distinguish the preference of male and female respondent on the plastic usage.

BACKGROUND

The survey method of data collection is adopted and convenient sampling is considered for sample selection. The interview schedule is also adopted with specific sample, the respondents selected their choice and tick the appropriate answer for every question in the questionnaire.Various research is carried on technical aspects of plastics and the publics view of plastic is done rarely, our research is done on general public’s view. The main reason for choosing the research is the current situation of the public’s lack of awareness on plastic product

MEANING

A plastic material is any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic solids used in the manufacture of industrial products. Plastics are typically polymers of high molecular mass, and may contain other substances to improve performance and/or reduce production costs. Monomers of plastic are either natural or synthetic organic compounds.

The word plastic is derived from the Greek plastikos meaning capable of being shaped or molded, from plastos meaning molded. It refers to their malleability, or plasticity during manufacture, that allows them to be cast, pressed, or extruded into a variety of shapes—such as films, fibers, plates, tubes, bottles, boxes, and much more.

Page 6: Presentation 1

There are two types of plastics: thermoplastics and thermosetting polymers. Thermoplastics are the plastics that do not undergo chemical change in their composition when heated and can be moulded again and again; examples are polyethylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride and polytetrafluoroethylene. Thermosets can melt and take shape once; after they have solidified, they stay solid. The raw materials needed to make most plastics come from petroleum and natural gas

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH DESIGN Descriptive research is followed in the methodology

part. The questionnaire is framed with regard to the knowledge of the general public and the respondent is expected as a mixture of both white and blue collar job holders. The data planned to be collected with direct interview with the respondent and face to face contact is exercised for data collection.survey technique used in field, sampling is planned on random selection of respondent and probability in nature. The field team is sent to the sample with a norm of being true with the respondent and help them in filling the question. Then the data is analysed with SPSS software to draw bar chart, pie chart. The chi-square analysis is done on gender and the plastics perception,so that hypothesis can be proved null or alternative or relational. The findings & the suggestion is proposed in the conclusion part of the research report.

SAMPLING DESIGN

Collection of data from a random sample of units which have been selected with known probabilities of selection from among all units in the target universe. In this case no assumptions about representativeness are needed in estimating totals or averages for the target universe and, in addition, there are well known techniques for determining the precision of these estimates.convinience sampling is been used in the research Sample size = 50Sample’s designation=teacher,non-teaching staff, retired AE,retired contractor, doctor, students.

LIMITATIONS

The research is subject to random sampling and convenient in nature, this has various limitations like not focusing a strata or a group of specialized respondent that may determine variation in result. The time constraint is a limitation,so as a limited sample is selected. In a short term, the sample is being collected and analysed. The research is carried over limited sample and the analysis may vary.

Page 11: Presentation 1

DATA COLLECTION

The data collected on sample includes the respondent as doctors, students, teachers, labours ,non-teaching staffs. The team involved in data collection made themselves prepared to face general public in their own area. The sample gave their preference after having a personal interview explaining the questionnaire to them. The rule that our team proposed and followed in data collection was to be true, honest and fair in the view of respondent. The respondent was given the necessary time to think on questionnaire.

IMPORTANT FINDINGS

With the chi-square analysis,it is proved that the 2 variable namely gender and perception on plastic product have relationship. The CALCULATED VALUE OF CHI-SQUARE IS 1.813,WHICH IS LESS THAN THE TABLE VALUE FOR 3 DEGREE OF FREEDOM AT 5% LEVEL OF SIGNIFICANCE IS 7.81,

Hence proved that there is a relationship.

With the chi-square analysis,it is proved that the 2 variables namely gender and the satisfaction on plastic product have relationship. The CALCULATED VALUE OF CHI-SQUARE IS .485,WHICH IS LESS THAN THE TABLE VALUE FOR 1 DEGREE OF FREEDOM AT 5%LEVEL OF SIGNIFICANCE IS 3.84,

Hence proved that there is relationship between the variable.

Page 44: Presentation 1

The respondent who have dis-agreed with the statement that emphasizes on satisfaction level on plastic products have given their best alternative for plastic as Eco-friendly products like pottery, clay &paper cups.

Many respondent exposed their clear view on the government

move on banning plastic as a good one, their views were specifying the safety of ecology, saving resources for next generation,to decrease global warming, reduce pollution, reduce plastic usage that are non degradable in nature.

Every respondent is aware of the plastic product and most

has got awareness through news paper, traders packaging with plastic bags, commercial trading.both male and female are interested in using plastic.

CONCLUSION

SUMMARY

The overall view on the research is discussed in the summary part, the questionnaire were framed from the part of respondents and it is more flexible.respondent is acute in selecting the proper chice for their answer.plastic is also perceived as a eco-friendly product by some of our respondent,so we made a awareness session to respondent in interview schedule.the government has banned the plastic products but has not framed any law enforcing the commercial traders to change the packaging, further there is no offense or punishment by court of law regarding the plastic usage.so the order placed by government will expire as soon as possible because there is no validity for the order.some have commented that the plastic banned by government is not a necessary as the human body will increase its efficiency automatically by mutant or reformation taking place in body.the human DNA seems to equip itself with increasing the immune system to control the external forces.

Page 46: Presentation 1

RECOMMENDATIONS

A technical research can be carried on the production of plastic in order to manufacture a eco-friendly plastic.so that the consumers can also be satisfied as well as the nature.

Alternatives for plastic product are accepted primarily by respondent as Eco-friendly products.so the goods relating to those factor can be given to general public.

Government should frame a statutory act and pass in the legislative for complete control of plastics that have lesses then 40 microns.

Page 47: Presentation 1

RECOMMENDATIONS

The firm that produces the plastic which has less than 40 microns should be seized and license shouldn’t be given.

A student committee can be formed all over the state and a national level awareness progam can be conducted in various areas,so that the plastic’s various application and its de-merits can be imparted.

Plastic finds its usage more in domestic goods,so those product should be manufactured with great care enabling the consumer to be healthier and safer by using those products.

The plastic companies association should be called for a meeting and the ideas of saving the earth can be imparted in their minds.

The recycling process for non degradable plastic product can de found by initiating various research process.
