In Spanish, in certain contexts, when you are talking about opinion, how somebody feels about something, hopes or wishes, or if there is any uncertainty, a special verb conjugation is required = EL SUBJUNTIVO (The Subjunctive)

The subjunctive is more of a mood (rather than a tense) because it indicates how somebody feels about something.

Ejemplos

John studies for the test.

It is important that John study for the test.

•Wishes•Emotion•Indirect Commands•Recommendations •Doubt, Denial Disbelief•Opinion

How to Form1) Start with the YO FORM of the present tense

2) Drop the –O ending

3) Add:

AR Verbs = e, es, e, emos, en

ER-IR Verbs = a, as, a, amos, an

It is important to always think of the PRESENT TENSE YO FORM! If a verb is irregular in the P.T. Yo Form., it carries over to all forms in the subjunctive.

with the word “que” (that)
