Objectives

• Bringing every citizen home and school, every business and administration into the digital age.

• Creating a digitally literate Europe supported by an entrepreneurial culture.

• Ensuring the whole process is socially inclusive.

Action plan aiming at 2002. • Actions on Commission and member states

Underlying objective of creating an Information society for ALL has longer term perspectives...

Page 5: .ppt

eEUROPE Action Plan Objectives:

• A cheaper, faster and secure Internet

• Investing in people and skills

• Stimulate the use of the Internet

Some of the actions of the 1st Objective are:

• Give increased priority to supporting the development of information infrastructure and projects.

• Move towards full conversion to IPv6 through pilot implementation in Europe.

• Work towards introducing greater competition in local access networks.

• Achieve significant reductions in internet access tariffs.

WP2001 General features

Budget: from 950 (in 2000) to 850 MEuro: Need for further concentration

‘Ambient Intelligence’ remains the focus

• Additional precision with the Key Enabling Technologies

Emphasis on high-risk/high-reward and medium to long term

Reduction of the number of action lines Same overall structure and Al’s format as in 2000

Page 16: .ppt

KA4: Outline 19 RTD, 4 separate take-up, 1 training

• 23 +12 in WP2000

Further focus by reducing the number of Als and the description of each AL

New ALs spanning the Key Action:• Design of networked embedded systems

• Multiservice networks - middleware for seamless access to services

Better integration of fundamental/basic research

Streamlining/grouping of take-up activities

Page 17: .ppt

KA4 main themes

Networked embedded systems and devices in adaptive networks

Interoperability among heterogeneous networks and their increased capacity, agility and functionality

Systems-on-a-chip and reuse of IP blocks for ICT terminals, sensors, communication systems and networks

Seamless access to and provisioning of services Augmented human/system interaction

Page 18: .ppt

CPAs - Focus

Address topics common to several Key Actions• themes of strategic nature

• bringing together fragmented areas

• supporting aspects of integration and convergence

Provide an additional perspective to proposers

Defined by Action Lines in the workprogramme• Section 5 of workprogramme

Resources available …. ~12% of the IST budget
