DEFINITION OF POLLUTION

• Pollution is the introduction of the contaminants into natural environment which causes harm or discomfort to the ecosystem.

• Pollutants are foreign substances or energies which lead to pollution.

Types of Pollution

There are Five types of Pollution• Air Pollution• Water Pollution• Noise Pollution• Land Pollution• Radio Active Pollution

Air Pollution

• Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals or biological materials into atmosphere which makes it uncomfortable and harmful is called air pollution.

Causes of Air Pollution

Major sources of Air Pollution - Industries -Automobiles and Domestic fuels -High Proportion of undesirable gases, such as sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide -Power Generation plants and natural sources.

Water Pollution

The contamination of the water bodies like rivers, lakes and oceans with substances which make it undesir -

able for use is termed as water pollution.

• Sewage and Wastewater.• Industrial Waste.• Oil pollution.• Marine dumping.• Radioactive waste.• Underground Storage leakages

Prevention of Water Pollution

requirements and proper conservation of water.

Noise Pollution

• Noise can be simply defined as unwanted sound.

• The sound is pleasant or not depends upon its loudness, duration, rhythm and the mood of the person.

• Traffic Noise• Air craft Noise• Noise from construction and civil

engineering works.• Noise from the Industries.• Noise from appliances, power tools.

Effects of Noise Pollution

• Human efficiency reduces because of noise pollution.

• Deafness permanent or temporary.• Increases blood pressure, mental illness.• Animals are susceptible to noise pollution.• Fatigue.• Increases stress level.

Prevention of Noise Pollution

• The Government rules should be made for controlling noise pollution.

• Avoid loud music, car horns and fire crackers.

• Motor, machines should be properly maintained to reduce there noise levels.

Land Pollution

• Land pollution is the degradation of Earth's land surfaces often caused by human activities and their misuse of land resources.

Causes of Land Pollution

The main reasons for land pollution are:• Increase in urbanization.• Increase in agricultural land.• Domestic waste.• Industrial activities.

Radio Active Pollution

• The radioactive pollution is defined as the physical pollution of air, water and the other radioactive materials.

• There are also natural cosmic radiations from earth.

• The Diseases include blood in cough• Ulcer• Swelling of bone joints• Cancer• Lung Cancer• Skin Cancer• Bone Cancer• Eye Problems

Prevention of Radio Active Pollution

• Avoid the use of nuclear resources for power generation.

• Take proper care of the radioactive elements and devices.

• Properly decompose the radioactive wastes.
