The Chicago River has a remarkable importance that the city hasn’t taken its full advantage, it fl ows accross the center of the city connecting the Michigan Lake with the city and fl owing into other important surroundings. Making the river usefull for transportation or recreational activities.

The problem is that it is barely used because the are no easy and accessible area to jump into the river.

Another problem is that some decades ago the water was very contaminated by the city causing seekness and death to the people.

What this project tends to do, is to create a public cultural center of the river, where people can access the river, do reacreatinal activites, learn more about the river’s history, or about its modern treatments that are being used to maintain the river and most importantly change the culture that people have about the river.

This projects creates a magnifi cent access to the river in one of the main streets of the city. Its program is compoesed of:

Design Concept First Stage

Project is focused on creating interesting views to the river

A ltered transicion is created by the views and the walkways between the city towards the river.

Design Concept Second Stage

Based on the most important views, mases were established to create the building and divide between inner and outter spaces

Werner Sobek Studio is all about high tech sky scrapers. From this comes the name for the studio, Triple Zero High Rise. The design concept is based on creating a multi use skyscraper with integrated desing and technology to achieve a complete sustainable building. To achieve this the building must have a simple yet elegant strucutre composed of steel and concrete that reduces material utility and fabrication process. Then facade systems are used to improve the performance of the building, for example, double facade systems, and high tech glazings are used to control the temperature of the building by reducing sun’s radiation inside the builing but getting natural sun light into it.Also natural ventilation is very important to achieve the sustainability of the building by designing controled opening and closing facade elements along the building which react to the whether. The desing concept comes from rotating simple squared geometries in the horizontal plane every certain distance, creating these triangular elements in the facade which produces that building has views to every angle in the city and crossing ventilation for every apartment.

PROYECTO TRESITESM PROYECTOS V PARAMETRICOENE - MAY 2012PROF. ARq. MARCELO SEPULVEDAALEJANDRO VILLARRALMELISSA OCHOA
