Garfield, 20th president of the U.S. and Hiram College student and leader, through the Garfield Center for the Study of the American Presidency and the Garfield Center for Public Leadership. The Centers, which both serve as a resource for the political science program, each select a small group of students to become “Garfield Scholars.” The Centers bring subject-matter experts to the College and provide students with opportunities to take their learning outside the classroom through study abroad trips, seminars and discussions. Career Connection Some organizations where our alumni have worked: • Pricewater House • Goldman Sachs • Woodrow Wilson Center • The Congressional Office of Tim Ryan • The Heritage Foundation We have also had students become Fulbright Scholars and attend graduate schools like: • George Washington University • Arizona State University • Baylor University • Northeastern University • Princeton University • Washington and Lee University • New York University • University of Notre Dame (over)

STUDY ABROADIn addition to taking trips to locations like Gettysburg, Pa.; Lincoln’s home in Springfield, Ill.; Cuba, Panama and Mexico with the Garfield Centers, students also have an opportunity to go on professor-led trips to study government and politics in locations like Greece and Turkey, Australia and India.
