Another year has come and gone and a new one is beginning. What did you do with 2018? What will you do

with 2019? What will you do with your time? Have you ever done something you wished you could take back? Have

you ever not done something you wish you had done? We all have. But the truth is we can’t undo or reuse our time.

Time marches on and the best thing we can do is make wiser choices for the future. I don’t believe when we get older,

we will ever say we wished we had spent less time with those we love, or reading our Bible, or praying, or worshipping.

I believe we will say we wish we had done those things more, but we can’t go back and re-spend our time.

The truth is, how we spend our time reflects what is most important to us. We will make time for those things

and those people we love the most. As we get older, our focus changes. The things we consider important change. Once

those we love are gone, we realize how important they were; but we can no longer spend time with them: so we need to

take time with them while we can. While our minds can still retain and understand the truths of God, we need to put

them into our minds. We need to spend time building our relationship with our Creator, our Savior, and our Redeemer.

He made time for us because we are important to Him. He gave His life for us because He loves us. Everything God

does, He does for us, for our good and for His glory. Paul wrote in Colossians 4:5 that we are to act wisely, “making the

most of our time.” Are you making the most of your time?

One of the latest updates for Apple devices is an app called Screen Time. It keeps track of how you spend your

time on your cellular device. It’s pretty amazing to see how we spend our time on our phones, tablets, and computers.

What if you had something that kept track of how you spent your time in 2018? Do you think you would be disappointed

or pleased with how you spent your time? Was your time wasted or well spent? As you enter 2019, keep in mind how

valuable time is. You’ve heard it said that children spell love “T-I-M-E.” The truth is we all spell it that way. As we get

older, we want our children and grandchildren to spend more time with us. When they don’t, we feel we are not im-

portant to them as they are to us. The truth is they haven’t discovered what we learn as we get older. Time moves really

fast and we must use it wisely because we can’t get it back. We learn the things we thought were important just aren’t as

important as the people we love. Let’s all make 2019 a year we spend our time wisely. Let’s reevaluate what is really

important to us and use our time focusing on that. I pray Jesus is at the top of your list of priorities. You are certainly on

the top of His list of priorities. Have a Happy New Year!

As we start a new year, we have the chance to welcome 4 new deacons as they begin a term of service to the church. Service being the key word in that sentence, makes this a good opportunity to review what it is deacons really do. The description below comes from the website https://classroom.synonym.com The term "deacon" means to minister or serve. Within each Baptist church is a group of deacons chosen for devout attributes who assist the pastor, preach to the congregation and reach out to the community. Qualifications: Qualifications for Baptist deacons differ between churches. Some churches require that deacons be ordained and trained similar to pastors. Some churches permit only men to become deacons, while others allow men and women. The Bible passages Acts 6 and Timothy 3:8-13 address spiritual and moral qualifications for deacons, which include wisdom, faith, honesty and sincerity. The Bible also states that a deacon must manage a household well and drink alcohol sparingly. Congregational Duties: Within the church organizational structure, Baptist deacons perform duties to support the pastor. In some churches, deacons administer communion and collect financial offerings. While it is the pastor's job to pray for the needs of the church and oversee internal ministry, deacons make themselves available to members for prayer and guidance to alleviate the workload of the pastor. Financial Duties: Because church organizations in the U.S. are tax-exempt, the law requires that they establish boards and committees for budgeting, government reporting and decision-making. This is intended to create a checks and balances system within each church. Baptist deacons serve on these boards and committees to guide the congregation and act as financial advisers and counsel to pastors and elders. Outreach: Deacons assist pastors in community outreach by ministering the gospel outside the church, visiting the sick and homebound, recruiting and receiving new members and traveling on missionary trips. Within a congregation, deacons set examples of compassion and stewardship. The deacons also help with educating and nurturing youth within and outside of the church. Be sure to welcome your new deacons. Pray for them the same as you do for your pastor and remember “God doesn’t call the qualified, he qualifies the called”. Be patient as they learn the best way to serve their church and its members.

Christian stewardship impacts all phases of our life, including plans for our worldly goods and resources after our death. For many, using

a planned giving method creates an optimal way to exercise the stewardship of the gifts entrusted to us. Planned gifts are typically larger

and more sophisticated than normal Sunday contributions, capital campaigns, or special fund-raising events. A few examples of how

church members can exercise their stewardship through planned giving include: leaving a gift through a will, establishing a charitable

remainder trust, creating a gift annuity, or designating your church as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

Such an endowment account has been created by the current Finance Committee and you are invited to consider this option for your

possible end of year giving, as well as future gift planning to Ringgold Baptist Church.

Individuals who make a planned gift to RBC are helping to create a fund which will be a lasting legacy for restoration, repair, and mainte-

nance of our beautiful church and grounds. Gifts designated to the endowment will NOT be used for the general operating expenses of

RBC.

Hey RBC Family,

December was fun and here at RBC we are blessed with some very fine talents God has

blessed us with.

Even though it was delayed one week due to snow, the Choir delivered an outstanding perfor-

mance of “The Star Still Shines”. The choir gets many kudos for learning their parts so well.

Special mention must be made for our young singers - Ashley and Kaitlyn knocked it out of

the park! Thank you girls! Of course it was great to have Cathy Shelton back bringing it home

for the Lord.

Christmas caroling was a riot! The weather was with us and we visited more than a dozen shut-ins who were elated at

our showing of such good tidings and faith in the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

I couldn’t have a more wonderful group of people to work with than this RBC Choir – you are a great group of people.

We work together, laugh together, pray together… all in communal joy with the Grace of God.

And of course, in this New Year you can expect us to be constantly on the lookout for new talent.

Trusting that you all had a very Merry Christmas and are enjoying a peaceful and fulfilling New Year.

Committee Organizational Meetings

All church committees will meet Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 5:00

pm in the Family Life Center. A light dinner will be served and each

committee will meet to elect a chairperson, vice-chair, and secretary.

Each committee will also review the duties/responsibilities and forms

used by that committee. If you served as a committee chair in 2018,

please also plan to briefly meet with that committee to finalize any old

business.

Copies of the 2019 Officers and Committees are available in the

Family Life Center foyer. Members of the Constitution Committee will

be available during the Committee Organization Meeting to assist and

answer any questions.

INCLEMENT WINTER WEATHER

In case of snow, ice, or sleet we will use our One

Call Now message system. It will also be on WSLS

Channel 10.

NO announcement will be made if we are having

services as scheduled. Please remember to use your

dinner begins at 6:30 pm followed by a devotional.

BAPTIST MEN'S DAY

January 27 will be Baptist Men’s Day at RBC. The day will begin

with a breakfast for all the men and boys of the church. During the

morning worship service, our men and boys will fill the choir for the

special music followed by testimonies from some of our men. This

will be a Sunday you will not want to miss.

WMU Highlights of 2018 Thank you for your prayers, participation and financial support for all of the WMU mission projects and activities of Ringgold Baptist Church during 2018. Hopefully, a strong commitment to missions at the local, state, national and international levels will continue during 2019 at RBC. Review of 2018: Received $2731.00 (goal of $2500) for Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American

Missions. Received $1935.00 (goal of $2000) for Alma Hunt State Mission Offering. Received to date $2,395.00 (goal of $4000) for Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International

Missions. Supported the Youth Pancake Breakfast for Greenville, SC Mission Trip on Sunday, March 18. Supported the Easter Egg Hunt for RBC children and community with candy. Donated $2400.00 to

God’s Pit Crew for Blessing Buckets. Provided lunch on March 23 for the Christian Student Fellowship at Averett University. Sponsored spaghetti lunch to support Youth Mission Trip to Greenville, SC on Sunday, April 15.

$1073.00 was donated to the Youth Mission Fund. Provided a birthday cake in March for the patients at Southern Virginia. Donated $651.76 to Transition Pregnancy Solutions from Mother’s Day – Father’s Day for the Baby

Bottle Boomerang Ministry. Collected and donated Back-to-School supplies to Kentuck Elementary School, Dan River Middle School, Southside Elementary School, and Dan River High School. Twenty-six volunteers are packing bags for the Backpack Buddies Ministry which serves KES

and DRMS on a weekly basis during the school year 2018-19. Seven volunteers are helping with the breakfast and lunch programs at KES on a weekly basis

during 2018-19. Twenty-three volunteers participated in OPERATION INASMUCH on Saturday, October 13, at

Food Lion and Piggly Wiggly. We delivered 1,887 pounds of food and water to God’s Storehouse, in addition to $740 in cash.

Global Hunger Relief Sunday was observed at RBC on November 5 with approximately 50 church members and guests attending. Donations of $335 were collected for God’s Storehouse.

Baptist Women’s World Day of Prayer was held on Monday, Nov. 5, with 20 women attending breakfast for devotions and prayer.

Magazines were collected to donate to Roman Eagle Rehabilitation Center for crafts and projects. Operation Christmas Child - 248 shoeboxes were collected at RBC this year. RBC served as a drop-off site for other churches and community people to bring their boxes to be

carried to the Danville-Pittsylvania Associational Office to be sent to the Processing Centers in Char-lotte and Boone, NC.
