• Spanish has two pronouns for “you”– TÚ = YOU– USTED = YOU
• The difference relates to the “social register”– TÚ = YOU(FAMILIAR)– USTED = YOU(FORMAL)
• Because of its grammatical properties, usted will always be grouped with él and ella (like-wise, ustedes will be with ellos and ellas)
However, Latin American speakers use ustedes instead of vosotros
