13 Barangays in Central Visayas Adjudged as Drug Cleared by ROC

Out of the twenty (20) barangays (13 from Bohol, 6 from Cebu Province, and 1 from Lapu-Lapu City)

deliberated during the 13th coordination meeting of the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug

Clearing Program on August 30, 2019, thirteen (13) barangays were declared as "drug cleared."

There were 7 barangays from Bohol Province, 5 in Cebu Province, and 1 in Lapu-Lapu City.

Before the deliberation, the said barangays were subjected to a thorough on-site validation conducted by

representatives of the Committee.

The validation included on-site checking of documents and interview with members of the Barangay Anti-

Drug Abuse Councils, C/MLGOOs, local PNP, and city/municipal health officers, especially concerning the

monitoring of drug personalities in their area and their anti-illegal drug efforts.

Present during the deliberation were the ROC members, headed by Acting Deputy Regional Director IA V

Thessa Albaño-Tiuzen of PDEA RO VII, PCpt. Rey Delos Santos of PRO 7, Dr. Dino Caing of DOH 7, and Atty. Ian

Lucero of DILG 7.

Also present were the mayors, vice mayors, M/CADAC focal persons, chiefs of police, and the health officers

of the respective LGUs with candidate barangays.

13th Regional Oversight Committee Meeting on Barangay Drug Clearing Program

Formal Declaration of Drug-Cleared Barangays in Siquijor and Negros Oriental

This month, the Regional Oversight Committee (ROC) on Barangay Drug Clearing Program formally awarded

"drug-cleared barangay" certificates to 27 barangays in Negros Oriental on August 2 and 16, 2019, and to 65

in Siquijor Province on August 15, 2019.

PDEA RO VII Deputy Regional Director Thessa Albaño Tiuzen, together with PCPT Rey Delos Santos of the Police

Regional Office 7 and representatives from DILG and DOH, facilitated the awarding of certificates.

All the said barangays were subjected to a thorough validation process before they were endorsed for

deliberation by the ROC on May 28, 2019.

PDEA 7 Joins Rehabinasyon Town Hall Meetings in Carcar City and Cebu City

On August 15-16 2019, Dir. Wardley M. Getalla served as a resource speaker during the

Rehabinasyon Townhall Meeting in Carcar City and Cebu City, Cebu, organized by the

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

Dir. Getalla discussed the current drug situation in Central Visayas, Barangay Drug Clearing

Program updates, and other programs of the Agency, particularly the establishment of Balay

Silangan facilities.

PDEA comics were also distributed to the participants.

Rehabinasyon Townhall meetings aim to highlight the government's programs and

accomplishments in the campaign against illegal drugs.

PDEA 7, AFP Conducts Drug Awareness Lecture for CIC-Cebu Students

PDEA RO VII personnel served as a resource speaker during the Joint Education and

Information Campaign conducted and facilitated by 3RD RELATIONS GROUP, CIVIL

RELATIONS SERVICE, Camp Lapulapu, Apas, Cebu City, for the students of Colegio de la

Immaculada Concepcion - Cebu.

Topics discussed were classification and ill effects of illegal drugs. PDEA comics were given to

participants after the lecture.

PDEA 7 Discusses "Unveiling a Drug-Free Environment" to PhilHealth Employees

On August 15, 2019, PDEA RO VII personnel served as a resource speaker during PhilHealth's activity

entitled "CY 2019 Area III LHIO Summit: Innovations for Change" at Quest Hotel and Conference

Center Cebu, Cebu City.

Topics discussed were (1) Background and framework of RA 9165; (2) Three-pronged strategy in the

war against illegal drugs; and (3) The programs of Harm Reduction Approach, namely voluntary

surrender of drug offenders under the Barangay Drug Clearing Program, support to Plea Bargaining

Agreement, Balay Silangan Program, Project: Sagip Batang Solvent, and Drug-Free Workplace

Program.

PDEA Comics were also distributed after the lecture.

PDEA RO VII Visits Balay Silangan Sites in Cebu Province

On August 22, 2019, Dir. Wardley M. Getalla, Acting Regional Director of PDEA 7, together with IA III Milva

Mojado, PDEA Cebu Provincial Officer, checked the ongoing renovation of the first Balay Silangan facility in

region 7, located in Danao City, Cebu.

The facility is slated to open very soon, with the assistance of the local government of Danao City, headed

by Mayor Ramon Durano III, and of private corporations in the city.

Thereafter, the team visited the site for a future Balay Silangan facility in Sogod, Cebu.
