INTRODUCTION
HydroGeoLogic, Inc. (HGL) has been tasked by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to conduct a radiological characterization study of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) at Area IV and the Northern Buffer Zone (NBZ) located in Ventura County, California. This work is being executed under USEPA Region 7 Architect and Engineering Services Contract EP-S7-05-05, Task Order 0038. The technical lead on the project is USEPA Region 9. This document supports the field implementation of the groundwater sampling program and is an addendum to the Final Phase I Field Sampling Plan (FSP) for Groundwater, Surface Water, and Sediment (HGL, 2010). A description of the overall project goals, data quality objectives, sampling strategy, laboratory analytical suites, data quality control, and data evaluation are described in the FSP.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this addendum is to document the groundwater monitoring wells and the off-site wells that will be sampled during the Phase II portion of the Area IV Radiological Study Groundwater Sampling program.
AREA IV GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELLS
During the Phase II groundwater sampling event, we will attempt to collect samples from the same 85 groundwater monitoring wells that were in the Phase I sampling program (Table 1). During the Phase I event 16 of these monitoring wells were dry.

A site-wide gauging event was conducted on January 10, 2011. During this event 10 wells were dry.

The groundwater monitoring wells will be gauged again before they are sampled. An attempt to collect a sample will be made if there is at least 0.30 inches of groundwater present in the well. OFF-SITE GROUNDWATER WELLS A total of 14 off-site groundwater wells will be sampled if groundwater is present and the wells are operable.

Figure 2 presents the locations of the off-site wells. The following wells OS-2, OS-3, OS-4, OS-5, OS-9, OS-10, RD-59B, RD59C, RD-68A and RD-68B are artesian wells located on the Bandeis-Bardin property. Samples from wells OS-2, OS-3, OS-4 OS-5, OS-9 and OS-10 will be collected from free flowing water. Wells RD-59B, RD-59C, RD-68A and RD-68B will be sampled from sample ports located on the wells. Well OS-9R, also located on Bandeis-Bardin property, contains a Westbay Multilevel System that is similar to the FLUTe wells in Area IV. Port 1 will be sampled in accordance with Section 3.5 of the Phase I FSP (HGL, 2010). Well OS-21 is located approximately a half mile west of Area IV, just south of the Albertson Fire Road, and is a windmill well. USEPA/HGL is currently working on acquiring access to this well. A sample will be collected if access is granted and the sample can be pulled from the well. Well WS-9A is owned by NASA and is located within SSFL Area II. The well is currently being used as an extraction well to control groundwater flow down-gradient. The pump is running most of the time and arrangements will be made to sample the well while the pump is running. The well is equipped with a spigot sampling port which will be used to collect the sample. Well RD-59A has a dedicated electric submersible pump and will be sampled in accordance with the protocol outlined in Section 4.6.2.3 of the Phase I FSP (HGL, 2010). LABORATORY ANALYSIS As described in the Final Phase I FSP (HGL, 2010) groundwater samples will be analyzed for a subset of radionuclide’s of interest (ROIs) selected from the complete list of soil ROIs. This approach provides the data necessary to meet the data quality objectives of the project while optimizing costs. The approach summarized below was applied during selection of the targeted list of groundwater ROIs to balance the radionuclide information that will be obtained from different analytical methods and the need to provide adequate sampling coverage. The following prioritization was developed to achieve this cost/benefit balance.
• Priority 1 - analyses will be performed on all groundwater samples. • Priority 2 - analyses will be performed on a select number of groundwater samples due
to budget limitations. • Other - analyses will not be performed on Phase I samples but may be considered for
Phase II. Table 2 summarizes the analyte list for each priority analysis. For further details regarding the analyte list selection refer to the Final Phase I FSP (HGL, 2010). Note that the Priority 2 analytes will be analyzed only at a few wells as listed on Table 1.

It is important to note that each water analysis requires a minimum volume of water. Certain wells, particularly shallow wells, are likely to become dry during sampling before a sufficient volume of water can be acquired for all analyses. If the volume of water that can be collected is limited, the laboratory will be instructed to subsample the gamma spectroscopy volume for analysis of the remaining analytes where practical. Following is the order in which sample volumes will be analyzed:
• H-3 • Gamma spectroscopy analytes (with one exception for Sr-90, see below) • Uranium isotopes • Sr-90 (this radionuclide will be given second priority at well RD-98 where it has been
reported before). • Gross alpha and beta radiation. • Priority 2 analyses in the following sets:
o Am-241, Cm-243, Cu-244, Cm-245, Cm-246 o Pu-238, Pu-239, Pu-240, Pu-242 o Np-237 o Ra-226 o I-129 o Tc-99 o C-14
