Pete Swaine and his family began their fundraising journey with John Taylor Hospice over a decade ago. From taking part in daredevil adventures such as wing walking, skydiving, abseiling and zip wiring, to organising annual sell-out quiz nights and sponsored hair cutting and moustache shaving events, their commitment has raised thousands of pounds - helping to ensure other local families have access to the care and support they need at the hospice and in their own homes. Pete said: “My step-daughter Catherine was just 23 when she died in January 2009. From the moment she arrived at John Taylor Hospice, Catherine was surrounded by so much love and support and she received the very best care, for which we’ll be forever grateful. When Catherine died, the hospice teams were a lifeline for us in so many ways. The staff at John Taylor Hospice feel like our extended family and we are so proud to support their vital work. We look forward to our next fundraising challenge and to ticking another incredible experience off the list! In June 1910 the Taylor Memorial Home opens in Park Road, Sparkhill for up to six patients. 1911 - Taylor Memorial Home moves to Showell Green House in Sparkhill where it expands and can now take up to 20 patients. 1935 - BBC Radio Appeal marks the 25th anniversary of the Taylor Memorial Home. 1941 - Taylor Memorial Home moves from Sparkhill after suffering Nazi bombing and is re-opened at White Lodge in Cannock. 1950 - The Taylor Memorial Home moves to The Grange in Grange Road, Erdington – its home for the past 70 years. 1970s - The home begins admitting men and patients with conditions other than cancer. 1990s - The Taylor Memorial Home is renamed John Taylor Hospice and a new Inpatient Unit wing opened. 2011 - John Taylor Hospice leaves the NHS and becomes a community interest company. 2018 - John Taylor Hospice becomes a charity and opens its first shops in Erdington, Wylde Green and Castle Bromwich. 2020 – John Taylor Hospice celebrates 110 years of care. Be part of a special year celebrating 110 years since John Taylor Hospice first opened its doors to people needing care at the end of their lives.

In 1910 the hospice was founded on donations from the public and your fundraising could provide hospice care for the next person who needs it.

We’ve found 110 different and exciting ways for you to fundraise. From coffee mornings to climbing Kilimanjaro, from a bingo competition to a Bollywood night and from a hike to a sponsored head shave – every pound you raise helps us to care for local families.
