ENGLISH: John M. Ackerman is Professor at the Institute of Legal
Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and
Vice President of the International Association of Administrative
Law. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Sociology from the
University of California, Santa Cruz and is an expert in the topics
of corruption control, elections, transparency, accountability,
autonomous institutions and citizen participation. He is a frequent
contributor to leading media outlets, such as New York Times, Los
Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, Houston
Chronicle, San Diego Union-Tribune, el Peridico Reforma, El
Universal, La Jornada y la Revista Proceso Some of his most recent
publications are: Organismos Autnomos y Democracia: El Caso
Mexicano (IIJ-UNAM/Siglo XXI Editores, 2007), Ms All del Acceso a
la Informacin: Transparencia, Rendicin de Cuentas y Estado de

Ackerman is a Senior Consultant to the World Bank, and was
coordinator of the National Working Group on Transparency,
Oversight and Accountability of the National Fiscal Convention in
Mexico. He has also been a consultant with USAID, OECD, UNDP,
Global Integrity, International Budget Project, Open Society
Institute and in Mexico with the Secretary of the Public Function,
the Supreme Court, the Chamber of Deputies and the Government of
Mexico City.

Sergio Aguayo

ENGLISH: Sergio Aguayo Quezada is Professor at the Center for
International Studies in the prestigious Colegio de Mxico. He
obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School
of Advanced International Studies (Washington, D.C.). His line of
research looks at national security, U.S. foreign policy,
U.S.-Mexico relations, refugees, human rights and democratization.
Some of his most recent publications include (all in Spanish):
U.S.-Mexico Almanaque (2005), The State of Mexicos Human Rights
(2003), La Charola: A History of Mexicos Intelligence (2001), and
The Mexican Almanaque (2000). In addition, since 1984, he writes a
weekly editorial that is now printed in Mexico Citys Reforma
newspaper and 18 other newspapers across Mexico, the United States
and Spain. In 2004 he was invited by a television program on
political analysis to join as one of the few panelists. Aguayo has
been a visiting professor at the UNAM, University of California at
Berkeley and San Diego, the CIDE, the University of Chicago, the
New School for Social Research, the Ortega and Gasset Foundation
and the Universidad Iberoamericana. He also directs Fundar and
participates actively in various organizations dedicated to human
rights.

Sus principales lneas de investigacin son seguridad nacional,
poltica exterior de Estados Unidos, relaciones Mxico-Estados
Unidos, refugiados, derechos humanos y democratizacin. Entre sus
libros ms recientes se encuentran Almanaque Mxico-Estados Unidos
(2005), Diagnstico sobre la situacin de los Derechos Humanos en
Mxico (2003), La Charola: Una historia de los servicios de
inteligencia en Mxico (2001), y El Almanaque Mexicano (2000). Desde
1984 publica, adems, una columna semanal que a partir de 1996
aparece en el diario Reforma de la Ciudad de Mxico y en otros 17
peridicos de Mxico y Estados Unidos. Desde noviembre de 2004 es
columnista invitado de El Pas, de Espaa. Es tambin panelista del
programa Primer Plano en el Canal Once. El Dr. Aguayo ha sido
profesor e investigador visitante en la UNAM, la Universidad de
California en Berkeley y San Diego, el Centro de Investigacin y

Manuel Camacho Sols
ENGLISH: Manuel Camacho is presently a member of the national
executive committee of the center left Opposition in Mexico (FAP)
and Director of Omega Projects, which specializes in mediation and
institutional design.

He has served as Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Mayor of Mexico
City, Secretary of Urban Development and the Environment,
Undersecretary of Budgetary Planning, member of Congress and
presidential candidate for the Partido del Centro Democrtico. He is
recognized for his capacity as negotiator and promoter of reforms.
In January 1994, and due to the Zapatista uprising in Chiapas, he
was assigned as the government commissioner for the peace in the
state of Chiapas. He is a frequent Op-Ed writer for El Universal, a
widely read newspaper in Mexico, and has published several books
(the latest, National Disagreement). He has also served as guest
speaker in the most prestigious universities and forums in Mexico,
Latin America, the United States and Europe. He has received
several international recognitions and was a member of the
Independent Commission on Global Governance. ESPAOL: Manuel Camacho
Sols es miembro directivo del Frente Amplio Progresista (FAP). Ha
sido Secretario de Relaciones Exteriores, Jefe del Departamento del
Distrito Federal, Secretario de Desarrollo Urbano y Ecologa,

la presidencia para el Partido del Centro Democrtico. Se le
reconoce por su capacidad para negociar y promover reformas. Como
muestra de ello y frente al levantamiento zapatista en el estado de
Chiapas fue asignado como comisionado para la paz. Escribe una
columna en el peridico El Universal y ha publicado varios libros.
Su ms reciente se titula Desacuerdo Nacional. Ha sido invitado por
las universidades ms prestigiosas de Mxico, Latinoamrica, Estados
Unidos y Europa como conferenciante. Camacho Sols ha recibido
varios reconocimientos internacionales y fue miembro del

John Coatsworth

ENGLISH: John H. Coatsworth is Monroe Gutman Professor of Latin
American Affairs in the Department of History at Harvard
University. Professor Coatsworth received his MA (1967) and Ph.D.
(1972) degrees in Economic History from the University of
Wisconsin, Madison and is an expert on the economic history of
Mexico and the international history of Mexico, Central America,
and the Caribbean. Some of Coatsworths most recent books are: The
United States and Central America: The Clients and the Colossus
(1994); Latin America and the World Economy Since 1800 (co-edited
volume with A.M. Taylor, 1998); and Culturas Encontradas: Cuba y
los Estados Unidos (co-authored with R. Hernndez, 2001).
Coatsworth's books on Mexico include: Los orgenes del atraso: Nueve
ensayos de historia econmica de Mxico (1990); Images of Mexico in
the United States (co-edited with C. Rico, 1988); and Growth
Against Development: The Economic Impact of Railroads in Porfirian
Mexico (1976). He has also published numerous scholarly articles
and essays. He is a former president of the American Historical
Association. At Harvard, he has been Director of the David
Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies since it was founded
in December 1994. He also chairs the Harvard University Committee
on Human Rights Studies and the Committee on Education Abroad of
the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He is a member of various
important committees and councils and has been a visiting professor
at various universities, including El Colegio de Mxico and the
UNAM. In 1986, Professor Coatsworth was awarded the John Simon
Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in 1986, served as Senior
Fulbright Lecturer three times (for appointments in Argentina and
Mexico), and has received research and institutional grants from
public agencies and private foundations in the United States and
elsewhere.

Denise Dresser

ENGLISH: Denise Dresser is a Mexican political analyst and
professor of Political Economy and Comparative Politics. She is
currently a faculty member of political science at the prestigious
Instituto Tecnolgico Autnomo de Mxico (ITAM), where she has taught
since 1991. She has also served as visiting professor at Georgetown
University and the University of California, Berkeley. Dresser
earned her Ph.D. in political science from Princeton University
after completing her undergraduate work at El Colegio de Mxico in
Mexico City. She was a Fullbright scholar and has obtained research
grants from the Ford and the Rockefeller Foundations, the Center
for International Studies at Princeton University, the Institute
for the Study of World Politics, and the Organization of American
States. She was a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for
International Studies at the University of Southern California, a
senior visiting fellow at the Inter-American Dialogue in Washington
D.C., and a fellow at the Salzburg Seminar. She is the author of
numerous publications on Mexican politics and United States-Mexico
relations. Currently she is author of a political column for the
Reforma, the most Mexicos most important newspaper, and the
magazine Proceso. She is the former host of the political talk show
"Entre Versiones" on Mexican television. Dresser has also published
numerous opinion pieces in the Los Angeles Times, The New York
Times and La Opinion, and is a frequent commentator on Mexican
politics in the U.S. and Canadian media.

ESPAOL: Denise Dresser es una reconocida periodista y acadmica
mexicana, especialista en Poltica Econmica y Poltica Comparada. Es
profesora de Ciencias Polticas en el Instituto Tecnolgico Autnomo
de Mxico (ITAM) y ha sido profesora visitante en las Universidad de
Georgetown y la Universidad de California, Berkely. Obtuvo su
licenciatura de El Colegio de Mxico y su maestra y doctorado de la
Universidad de Princeton. Ha obtenido diversas becas, entre las que
destacan aquellas brindadas por las fundaciones Fullbright, Ford y

Hctor Fix-Fierro is Dean of the Instituto de Investigaciones
Juridicas of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM),
where he is also fulltime professor. He has been a visiting
professor at the Instituto Tecnolgico Autnomo de Mxico (ITAM), the
Universidad Veracruzana, the University of Houston Law Center and a
visiting researcher at the University of Bremen, where he earned
his Ph.D. in Law. His current lines of research are constitutional
law and the sociology of law. He has published numerous articles
about globalization, the legal profession, and judicial reform in
Mexico, and is the author and editor of a number works. Some of his
most recent books are: Courts, Justice and Efficiency: A
Socio-Legal Study of Economic Rationality in Adjudication (Hart
Publishing, 2003); Los Derechos Polticos de los Mexicanos;
Tribunales, Justicia y Eficiencia; and El amparo administrativo y
la mejora regulatoria en Mxico. Among his many articles and book
chapters are: Muchos abogados, pero poca profesin? Derecho y
profesin jurdica en el Mxico contemporneo; La educacin jurdica en
Mxico. Un panorama general; and La reforma en Mxico: entre la

Lorenzo Meyer
ENGLISH: Lorenzo Meyer is Professor of International Relations
at the prestigious El Colegio de Mxico, where he has taught for
more than thirty years. He completed a post doctorate at the
University of Chicagos Political Science Department and is the
author of various influential articles and books, among them: Mxico
y los Estados Unidos en el conflicto petrolero 1917-1942 (1973) and
Fin de rgimen y democracia incipiente: Mxico hacia el siglo XXI
(1998). He has been a visiting profesor at a number of higher
education institutions, such as the Universidad Complutense, the
Instituto Universitario Ortega y Gasset in Madrid and the Center
for Latin American Studies at Stanford University. He has also been
a guest lecturer at conferences in Mexico and elsewhere. Meyer
writes a weekly Op-Ed for the Reforma, Mexicos most influential
newspaper, and is one of the few panelists on Primer Plano, a
television program on political analysis. He has received wide
recognition for his journalistic work and has obtained scholarships

ESPAOL: Lorenzo Meyer es Doctor en Relaciones Internacionales.
Realiz estudios de posdoctorado en el Departamento de Ciencia
Poltica de la Universidad de Chicago. Es autor, entre otros, de los
libros: Mxico y los Estados Unidos en el conflicto petrolero
1917-1942 (1973) y Fin de rgimen y democracia incipiente: Mxico
hacia el siglo XXI (1998). Asimismo, obtuvo el Premio Nacional de
Periodismo en 1989 (categora Artculo de Fondo). Meyer lleva ms de
treinta aos como profesor e investigador de tiempo completo en el
Centro de Estudios Internacionales de El Colegio de Mxico. Ha sido
profesor visitante en diversos centros acadmicos, como la
Universidad Complutense y el Instituto Universitario Ortega y
Gasset de Madrid y el Center for Latin American Studies de la
Universidad de Stanford, California. Tambin ha impartido numerosas
conferencias y seminarios en instituciones y universidades
nacionales y extranjeras. Semanalmente participa como columnista

Esteban Moctezuma

ENGLISH: Esteban Moctezuma Barragn is a prominent figure in
Mexican politics and business. He received his bachelors degree in
Economics from the Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico (UNAM) and
his M.A. in Political Economy from Cambridge University. He has
worked as the director of the Mexico program at UCLA. In 2002
Moctezuma became the executive president of Fundacin Azteca, a
Mexican nonprofit that promotes social responsibility. In only five
years he has provided significant help to more than half a million
people through a donation program of his own creation. His first
fundraising effort raised a million dollars, which went to an organ
transplant foundation and helped finance a number of surgeries and
324 cornea transplants. As part of his continuing effort to provide
help to those in need, Esteban Moctezuma is currently collaborating
with President Felipe Caldern in a healthcare agreement between the
federal government and a large number of important businesses and
organizations. Before arriving at Fundacin Azteca, Moctezuma was a
central player in Mexican politics and a key member of the
Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). In the realm of public
administration he served as Secretary of the Interior, Secretary of
Social Development, Undersecretary of Public Education and Senator.
Within the PRI he also played an important role as part of its
national executive committee and as the campaign manager for
Ernesto Zedillo and Francisco Labastida. In addition to writing
frequent Op-Ed pieces for El Universal, a widely read Mexican
newspaper, he has also written two books: La educacin pblica frente
a las nuevas realidades (1994) and Por un gobierno con resultados.
El servicio civil de carrera: Un sistema integral de
profesionalizacin, evaluacin y desempeo de los servidores pblicos

Esteban Moctezuma Barragn es un personaje destacado en el
ambiente pblico y privado. Estudi economa en la Universidad
Nacional Autnoma de Mxico y cuenta con una Maestra en Poltica
Econmica de la Universidad de Cambridge. Ha sido Director del
Programa de Mxico en la Universidad de California en Los ngeles
(UCLA). Desde el 2002 es presidente ejecutivo de la Fundacin
Azteca. En un lapso de cinco aos dentro de esta importante
organizacin Mexicana ha logrado innovaciones como la implementacin
de una estrategia de valores, un cdigo de tica y un plan de
donativos. En tan solo su primera campaa nacional logr recaudar 11
millones 200 mil pesos, que fueron donados a la Fundacin Nacional
de Trasplantes. Los fondos recaudados se destinaron a cirugas de
rin, hgado y corazn, as como a 324 transplantes de crnea. Como
continuacin de este esfuerzo, Esteban Moctezuma se encuentra en
estos das colaborando con el Presidente Felipe Caldern en un pacto
nacional a favor de la salud que atrae a varias empresas y
organizaciones importantes. Vale la pena agregar que desde su
entrada a la Fundacin Azteca ms de medio milln de personas han sido
ayudadas de manera significativa. Antes de su entrada a la fundacin
Moctezuma Barragn fue actor clave de la poltica nacional y miembro
dirigente del Partido Revolucionario Institucional. Entre sus
varios cargos en la administracin pblica se encuentran los de
Secretario de Gobernacin, Secretario de Desarrollo Social,
Subsecretario de Educacin Pblica y Senador. Dentro del PRI se
desempe en el cargo de Secretario General del Comit Ejecutivo
Nacional y fue Coordinador General de Campaa de Ernesto Zedillo
Ponce de Len y de Francisco Labastida Ochoa. Escribe una columna

ENGLISH: Paulina Ochoa Espejo is Assistant Professor in the
department of Political Science at Yale University. She received a
PhD from Johns Hopkins University, an MA in Political Theory from
the University of Essex and her bachelors degree in International
Relations from El Colegio de Mxico. Before joining the faculty at
Yale, she held a Carey Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Erasmus
Institute in the University of Notre Dame. She specializes in
contemporary political theory and the history of political
thought.

departamento de ciencia poltica de la Universidad de Yale. Es
doctora en ciencia poltica por la Universidad Johns Hopkins y
maestra en teora poltica por la Universidad de Essex. Recibi la
licenciatura en relaciones internacionales de El Colegio de Mxico.
Antes de llegar a Yale fue miembro posdoctoral del Instituto
Erasmus de la Universidad de Notre Dame. Sus especialidades son la

ENGLISH: Jess Orozco is Professor at the Institute of Legal
Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He
received his law degree from the Universidad Nacional Autnoma de
Mxico (UNAM) and his M.A. in Comparative Law from the University of
California, Los Angeles. He is a current Ph.D. candidate in law
from the UNAM. Orozco has taught various courses at the
undergraduate and graduate level, such as: Constitutional Law,
Comparative Law, Electoral Law and the Philosophy of Law. He is
also the author and co-author of more than eighty articles and a
number of books. Of these it is worth highlighting: Justicia
electoral y garantismo jurdico; Rgimen de las relaciones colectivas
de trabajo en las universidades pblicas autnomas; El sistema
mexicano de justicia electoral; y Derecho electoral y los derechos
humanos de los mexicanos. He has participated in more than 150
academic conferences in Mexico as well as in other Latinamerican,
African, Asian and European countries. Moreover, between 1996 and
2006 he served as judge for the Federal Electoral Tribunals Supreme
Court. Within the UNAM he has been Director of Legal Affairs,
Director of University Legislation, and Academic Secretary for the
Insitute of Legal Research.

Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico (UNAM), y Maestro en Derecho

Es Investigador Titular del Instituto de Investigaciones
Jurdicas de la Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico en el rea de
derecho constitucional, adems de profesor de asignatura definitivo
de Introduccin al Estudio del Derecho en la Divisin de Estudios
Profesionales de la Facultad de Derecho de la propia Universidad,
as como interino de Sistemas de Control Constitucional en la

Ocup el cargo de Magistrado de la Sala Superior del Tribunal
Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federacin de noviembre de 1996 a
octubre de 2006. Anteriormente, se desempe como Magistrado de la
Sala Central del entonces Tribunal Federal Electoral. Entre los
cargos desempeados en la UNAM se encuentran el de Director General
de Asuntos Jurdicos, Director General de Legislacin Universitaria,

Irma Sandoval

ENGLISH: Irma Sandoval is Professor at the Institute of Social
Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and
director of the Laboratory for Documentation and Analysis of
Corruption and Transparency (www.corrupcion.unam.mx). She holds a
MA and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of
California, Santa Cruz as well as a MA in Latin American Studies
from the UNAM. She also holds a BA in Economics from the UNAM and a
second BA in Sociology from the Universidad Autnoma Metroplitana
(UAM), Xochimilco. She is a specialist in the topics of
accountability, corruption, transparency and freedom of information
laws. Her research focuses on political economy, public policy and
emerging institutions in democratizing states. She has taught
courses at the undergraduate and graduate level at the UNAM,
UAM-Xochimilco, El Colegio de Mxico, the Centro de Investigacin y
Docencia Econmica (CIDE) and the University of California, Santa
Cruz. Sandoval was the editor-in-chief of Qurum journal and
Director of the Mexican Congress Legislative Research Institute.
She has worked as a consultant to the World Bank, the United
Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Open Society Institute, the
Budget Accountability Project, Global Integrity, and the Mexican
Congress. She has published her work in the Administrative Law
Review, the Fondo de Cultura Econmica, the Revista Mexicana de
Sociologa, Perfiles Latinoamericanos, the Instituto Federal de

Ian Shapiro
ENGLISH: Ian Shapiro is Sterling Professor of Political Science
at Yale University, where he also serves as Henry R. Luce Director
of the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies. He has
written widely and influentially on democracy, justice, and the
methods of social inquiry. A native of South Africa, he received
his J.D. from the Yale Law School and his Ph.D from the Yale
Political Science Department where he has taught since 1984 and
served as chair from 1999 to 2004. Shapiro is a fellow of the
American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a past fellow of the
Carnegie Corporation, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Center for
Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. He has held visiting
appointments at the University of Cape Town and Nuffield College,
Oxford. His most recent books are The Flight From Reality in the
Human Sciences, and Death by a Thousand Cuts: The Fight Over Taxing
Inherited Wealth (with Michael Graetz). His new book, Containment:
Rebuilding a Strategy against Global Terror is forthcoming from
Princeton University Press. His current research concerns the
relations between democracy and the distribution of income and

Demetrio Sodi
ENGLISH: Demetrio Sodi is a widely recognized Mexican
politician. He received his bachelors degree in Business
Administration from the Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City,
Mexico) and pursued additional studies in Administrative
Development at Harvard University. In 1977 he left Grupo Cifra, a
large Mexican firm, and began his career in government, where he
has held a number of administrative and elected positions. Most
recently he served as Mexico Citys representative in the Senate and
was member of several
-
important committees, among them: Tax and Public Credit
(Hacienda y Crdito Pblico), Trade and Industrial Development
(Comercio y Fomento Industrial), and the Special Committee for
Peace in the State of Chiapas (commonly referred to as Cocopa).
Prior to entering the Senate he was Congressman at the federal
level, where he presided the Committee on Trade and was
vice-coordinator of legislators of the Party of the Democratic
Revolution (PRD). He has also chaired the Committee on Ecology as
Congressman in the Mexico City Assembly, worked as Executive Manger
of the Diconsa stores and has worked as General Coordinator for
Supply and Distribution for the Mexico City government. In 2006 he
ran for mayor of Mexico City. His experience working with citizen
organizations is extensive. In 1993 Sodi brought about a plebiscite
in Mexico City that helped turn the mayorship into a popularly
elected position. He also helped rebuild communication channels
between the government and the political opposition prior to the
1994 elections. In October of 2004 he called for the creation of
Metrpoli 2025, a metropolitan study center for Mexico City and its
contiguous areas. This nonprofit organization has brought together
more than 200 scholars, researchers, businesspeople and politicians
and is the main source of research and information about the
metropolis. In addition to writing frequent Op-Ed pieces for El
Universal, a widely read Mexican newspaper, he has also co-authored
the book Abasto y Distribucin de Alimentos en las Grandes Metrpolis
and wrote a chapter entitled Los Caminos para la Transicin
Democrtica in Transicin a la Democracia. ESPAOL: Demetrio Sodi de
la Tijera es un reconocido poltico mexicano. Recibi su licenciatura
en Administracin de Empresas por la Universidad Iberoamericana y
estudi un curso de desarrollo administrativo en la Universidad de
Harvard. En 1977 dej la empresa Grupo Cifra para iniciar lo que
sera una larga y destacada carrera en el sector pblico. En el mbito
gubernamental Sodi coordin programas de abasto social en Conasupo y
fue director general de las tiendas Diconsa. Ha obtenido tres
cargos de eleccin popular en la cmara baja: Diputado Federal en la
LIV Legislatura donde fue presidente de la Comisin de Comercio;
Diputado Federal en la LVII Legislatura donde se desempe como
vice-coordinador General de la Fraccin del PRD; Diputado Local en
la II Asamblea del DF donde presidi la Comisin de Ecologa. En la
LIX Legislatura se desempe como Senador por el DF de la Fraccin del
PRD e integr las siguientes comisiones: Hacienda y Crdito Pblico
(Secretario), Comercio y Fomento Industrial , Distrito Federal,
Puntos Constitucionales y Cocopa. En 1997, Sodi de la Tijera se
afili al Partido de la Revolucin Democrtica (PRD), en donde fungi
como Consejero Nacional del Comit Ejecutivo Nacional. En el 2005
present ante el Partido Accin Nacional (PAN) capitalino su
solicitud de registro como aspirante externo a la jefatura de
Gobierno del Distrito Federal.

Sodi ha participado activamente en organizaciones a favor de la
democracia y de las causas ciudadanas. Adems, ha colaborado como
articulista del peridico El Universal y es coautor del libro

Susan Stokes
ENGLISH: PhD, Stanford University, 1988. John S. Saden Professor
of Political Science and director of the Yale Program on Democracy.
Her research has been supported by the National Science Foundation,
the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, the
American Philosophical Society, and the Russell Sage Foundation.
Her research interests include democratic theory and how democracy
functions in developing societies, with a focus on Latin America.
Her most recent book is Democracy and the Culture of Skepticism:
Political Trust in Argentina and Mexico (with Matthew Cleary,
Russell Sage Foundation, 2006). Mandates and Democracy:

Gustavo Vega
ENGLISH: Gustavo Vega-Cnovas is Director of the Center for
International Studies in the prestigious Colegio de Mxico, where he
is also Professor. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Political
Science from Yale University, where he specialized in

Relations, Comparative Politics and International Political
Economy. He is an expert in U.S.-Mexican economic relations and
North American integration, having studied and written extensively
on the topic for the past 15 years. His current line of research
looks at the implications of 911 on the future of NAFTA and his
recent publications include Unfair Trade Practices and Dispute
Resolution Mechanisms in Free Trade Agreements of the Americas: The
Experience of North America and Chile (2001, in Spanish), "NAFTA
and the EU: Toward Convergence?" (in an edited volume by Jeffrey J.
Anderson 1999), and an edited volume produced from two conferences
cosponsored by the Watson Institute and the Luso-American
Foundation in Lisbon. Professor Vega-Cnovas has been member of five
binational panels under Chapter 19 of the North American Free Trade
Agreement (NAFTA). He is member of the National System of
Researchers (SNI) of Mexico's Education Ministry. In addition to

ESPAOL: Gustavo Vega Cnovas es el Director del Centro de
Estudios Internacionales de El Colegio de Mxico, donde tambin es
profesor. Es Doctor en Ciencia Poltica con concentracin en
Relaciones Internacionales, Poltica Comparada y Economa Poltica
Internacional de la Universidad de Yale. Obtuvo, en esta misma
institucin la Maestra en Filosofa en Ciencia Poltica. Realiz
estudios de Maestra en Ciencias Polticas en el Colegio de Mxico y
estudios de licenciatura en Derecho en la Facultad de Derecho de la
UNAM. Es un experto en las relaciones econmicas entre los Estados
Unidos y Mxico. Su presente lnea de investigacin examina el impacto
de los ataques del 11 de septiembre sobre el Tratado de Libre
Comercio de Amrica del Norte (TLCAN) y ha sido autor o coordinador
de 12 libros y de 31 captulos de libros y 21 artculos arbitrados.

Leo Zuckermann
ENGLISH: Leo Zuckermann is a Ph.D. candidate in Political
Science from Columbia University. He holds a BA degree in Public
Administration from El Colegio de Mxico, a Masters degree in Public
Policy from Oxford University, and a Masters degree in Political
Science from Columbia. He worked for the Office of the President of
Mexico and for McKinsey & Co. He was the Provost of the Centro
de Investigacin y Docencia Econmicas (CIDE). He is now an associate
professor in the Political Science Department of this prestigious
institution.

Zuckermann hosts a weekly television show about political issues
in the national broadcast company Televisin Azteca. In radio, he
hosts a weekly show about electoral issues in the national network
Imagen and he participates as a political commentator in the news
program Jos Crdenas Informa of Radio Frmula. In addition, he writes
a daily column for Esclsior, a newspaper published in Mexico City;
his column is also syndicated in several newspapers throughout
Mexico. In 2003 he won the National Award of Journalism in the
category of in-depth editorial analysis.
