SECRETARY MANAGER’S REPORT
Hi Members,
At the July Board Meeting, the Board of Directors expressed their Appreciation and Thanks to all of the Staff in relation to the recent trading results of the Club. The positive trading of the Club is a re-flection and testament to the team of Staff that we have. The Club has made two successive Profits in May and June, bringing our Year-To-Date (ending June) trading to an overall profit too. With our members and guests ongoing support, hopefully we can continue the success for the remainder of the year!
I would like to welcome Mr. Luke Parris, who has been appointed in the role of Senior Duty Manager. Luke brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Club and prior to this role he worked at the St George Leagues Club, JDA Hotels Group, and also Grandviews Bowling Club.
I’m excited to see we have lined up some great events over the month of August and I think you’ll find there is a little bit of something for everyone. Don’t forget to purchase your tickets to the ‘Original Sin’ INXS Tribute Band on Saturday the 16th August as spaces are getting quite full already. If sports is more your thing, we are hosting 15 amateur boxing bouts on Sunday the 17th August. This event is or-ganized and conducted by Paul Nasari and promises to be very well planned with some exciting fights. There will also be sporting memorabilia and other great prizes to be won throughout the day. For all the coffee connoisseurs, you might want to come down for our raffle night from 5:00pm on Wednes-day 20th as we have an Expressi Multi Beverage Capsule machine as the major monthly prize – no more instant coffee!
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of a round of golf with our Social Golf Club. It was a fan-tastic and enjoyable day so I would like to remind our members that if anyone is looking for a game on Wednesday mornings to contact Enzo on 9580 6996 as all are wel-come.
I hope the gradual improvements over the past few months have lifted our member’s and guest’s experience at Penshurst RSL, we are constantly looking at ways to better our services and this is al-ways at the forefront of our minds.
Kind Regards,
Chis Hendley
Congratulations to Eddy Assirati who had a hole-in-one on
PANTHERS JUNIOR AFL CLUB We are now ¾ of the way through season 2014 and we have a number of teams in finals contention, and our non-competition teams are all showing enormous enjoyment and skill improvement.
A lot is happening in the world of junior footy and there have been a few significant achievements.
School Footy
A number of Penshurst players were selected for the various school state teams during June and from all accounts performed extremely well. One of our players, Liam Maze was selected in the Under 16 NSW/ACT squad currently playing in the under 16s AFL National Championships in Queensland. This is a huge achievement. Congratulations to Liam and all our other school representatives.

Penshurst RSL Panthers Players well represented in the AFL GSJ Representative Carnival
In early July the annual AFL GSJ carnival for u13s-U17s was held at Cherrybrook and there were 30 Penshurst RSL Panthers players selected in to represent Sydney South across thefour age groups. Our boys represented the Sydney South region admirably and all our teams were competitive every day.
Auskick
This is where it all starts and this season we have a large number of Auskick players. On Saturday 12 July a number of the players also got to have a game at Olds Park in the curtain raiser before the AFL Sydney Premier Division game between St George and Western Suburbs.
We are fortunate to have recruited a fantastic Auskick Co-ordinator in Matthew Williams, who has embraced the role whole-heartedly and is doing a tremendous job in ensur-ing all the Auskickers get a fair go and enjoy the game. Matt has also been named the 2014 Auskick Co-ordinator of the year! Con-gratulations and sincere thanks to Matt for all that he and his wonderful team of Auskick parents do for the club.
2014 Grand Finals will be hosted by us at Olds Park
After a successful develop-ment day carnival held at Olds Park over the June long weekend, the Regional Committee have announced that Penshurst and Olds Park will host the Sydney Harbour White (u11-u17) Grand Finals on Sunday August 31. This is a just reward to our merry band of helpers, who give so much to Penshurst and to junior footy.

PENSHURST RSL TRAVEL CLUB CHRISTMAS IN JULY19 & 20 JULY 2014
Including our Pegasus Coach driver, Garry, there were 43 of us on this trip which departed at 8 am. Morning tea was at Ourimbah and we arrived at Dungog – our lunch destination – not long before 12. This gave us a few minutes to run around the shops before enjoying a light meal supplied by the kindly CWA ladies. We then collected Marie, our coach guide, who proudly showed us around her town.
It took another hour to reach Gloucester Country Lodge Motel our accommodation for the night, with our group filling the entire place! Later there was a short drive to the picturesque Trudgalong Farm where owner, Lindy and her son Matthew greeted us. Here we would have Christmas dinner, but first was a tour of the farm starting with the gorgeous Labrador puppies bred there, two large ponds of silver perch grown for 12-18 months and then supplied to the Sydney and Newcastle fish markets, plus a herd of goats. There was more to see, but it was growing dark and so we were ushered into their beautifully decorated dining area. A great night was had by all, with traditional Christmas fare plus entertainment.
Sunday was an early start and there was a quick peek at Gloucester township where not much was

happening at that time! A pretty run back through Dungog and on to Paterson where we would spend most of the day at the property containing the co-lonial-Georgian Tocal Homestead and C B Alexan-der Agricultural College. Our wonderful guide for the day, Mim, directed us to morning tea first, be-fore we viewed rooms inside the homestead erected in the early 1840s and the quaint outbuild-ings built and used ten years before that. The last of the private owners, Charles Boyd Alexander, died in 1947 leaving a complex will which provided for the establishment of the CB Alexander Agricul-tural College (now run by NSW Agriculture and the CB Alexander Foundation) located a short distance away on the 2,200 hectare property. Here we were to admire the wonderful facilities for the 100 or so students, including the Tocal chapel with its amazing 40 m high spire. Afterwards, there was a wonderful roast beef lunch before it was time to head over to the college’s dairy for the 2 pm milking run by one of the students and his “boss”. It had been a great weekend and we were back at Penshurst by 6 pm.
Penshurst RSL Travel Club offers interesting day and extended tours throughout the year and, if you would like to join for just $6 per year, please contact us on 9533 5809 or e-mail: [email protected] for further information.
