PENGARUH KEDALAMAN PEMBENAMAN TOOL ( PLUNGE DEPTH ) TERHADAP HASIL PENGELASAN

FRICTION STIR WELDING

Dalam studi ini, Pengaruh kedalaman pembenaman tool terhadap kekuatan

mekanik dan struktur mikro sambungan plat alumunium 5083 dengan pengelasan

Friction Stir Welding telah diteliti. Proses pengelasan menggunakan mesin milling

dengan variasi kedalaman pembenaman tool 3,85 mm, 3,90 mm, dan 3,95 mm,

menggunakan kecepatan mesin 1125 rpm, kecepatan gerak meja 30 mm/menit,

dan sudut 30. Pengujian yang dilakukan adalah uji tarik, uji tekuk, uji kekerasan,

pengamatan foto makro dan struktur mikro.

Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa kekutan tertinggi pada uji tarik dan

root bending terdapat pada hasil pengelasan dengan kedalaman pembenaman tool

3,95 mm. Pengujian struktur mikro menunjukkan semakin dalam pembenaman

tool menyebabkan ukuran butir semakin kecil pada bagian weld nugget. Pada

pengujian kekerasan menunjukkan hasil bahwa rata-rata daerah retreating side

mempunyai kekerasan yang lebih tinggi dibanding advancing side. Nilai

kekerasan retreating side 84,9 HVN dan advancing side 84,6 HVN.

Abstract

The effect of tool plunge depth on the friction stir welding result

In this study, The effect of tool plunge depth on the mechanical properties

and microstructure of 5083 alumunium joint on friction stir welding process was

investigated. Milling machine was used in welding process in various tool plunge

depth 3.85 mm, 3.90 mm and 3.95 mm, using speed machine in 1125 rpm,

30mm/minutes feed-rate and 3 degree. Conducted test was tensile, bending,

hardnes, micro, macro were observed on jointment.

The result showed that the highest strength on the tensile test and root

bending test on the welding process in the 3.95 mm tool plunge depth. Base on

microstructure can be concluded tool plunge depth causes decreasing the grain

size nugget. The hardness test showed that retreating side area has harder than

advancing side. Retreating hardness 84.9 HVN and advancing hardness 84.6

HVN.
