Dear Family and Friends of PDMSS,

Do you remember your children trick-o-treating for

Chromebooks this Halloween? Our students were collecting coins

to help purchase this technology for a school in Botswana. Well on

Wednesday our student council presented Pat Cairns, the head of

the project and a good friend of PDMSS, with a check for $771!

Last year Pat’s efforts helped supply hundreds of books for the

library at this same school. It was so good to see Pat on

Wednesday. We look forward to her sending us more worthwhile

projects in the future!

Our first Parent Education meeting was a great success.

Fifteen parents gathered in the library to talk about parenting

issues such has setting limits and homework. The group decided to read and discuss the book How

Children Succeed by Paul Tough. Stay tuned for more information about which chapters will be discussed

and when the next meeting will be held.

Classes began sharing their Caine’s Arcade creations this week. Students have been designing

games, constructing them out of cardboard, and then inviting their fellow students to play. More

classrooms will be sharing the games between now and winter break. I’ve included a few photos for your

enjoyment.

Our winter Book Fair is set for December 6th - 13th with one of my favorite events, Breakfast with

Dad, on December 11th. Roohi Stack is organizing the volunteers this year. Here’s a link you can use to

I’d like to draw your attention to a flyer in the newsletter about the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation.

The founder of the organization, Maria D’Angelo, is being recognized by the Women of Worth program. We

have supported the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation in the past and here’s another opportunity that’s quick

and easy. If the foundation receives enough votes between now and November 20th, the Women of Worth

Our Marine Science Dinner is on March 1st! Before the big night we need to procure items for the silent auction. Check out the flyer that

explains what type of items are needed, the letter to give to businesses, and the information form to be completed with each donation. This is a great night of fun and friends and a great way to support our school. If you have any questions you can contact Ali Thonson. And thanks Ali for all that you do for PDMSS!

As promised, there are more Jump for Heart photos in this week’s newsletter. The generosity that our community has shown toward this valuable organization is staggering. We raised over $4,600 dollars for the American Heart Association in just one week! Amazing!

As I was putting together this week’s newsletter I was struck by

our strong tradition of community service. There’s so much that happens at PDMSS that makes me proud to be your principal and our commitment to serving others and making a difference in people’s lives is at the top of the list!
