Positive Elements Challenges
● Weekly meetings● Well positioned in our County to move
toward in-person instruction● Recommends in-person instruction to
the extent possible under CDPH guidance
● Testing procedures in place
● There is data which reflects when opening a new sector there will be an increase of positive cases.
● The unknown - new information continually emerging.
Plumas County Public Health Partners
Comments
● We will follow state guidelines to minimize risk with full awareness that some risk will always remain.
● We will need to adapt to emerging science. Learning more each day.

• Call for substitute for in person instruction• If no sub, emergency lesson plan for distance
learning• What happens if a teacher is out for three or more
days?• Distance learning
Substitutes
• Limited number in each community• What will happen if a substitute is not
available?• Elementary- Parent notification by 7:00 AM
that in person instruction is cancelled for the day, will be an asynchronous learning day
• JH/SH- Instruction may be modified to asynchronous learning, supervised by classified or admin

Questions
Let’s pause prior to sharing instructional models.
Are there any questions from the Board on items we have covered so far?
Instructional Model Considerations• Status Quo• Monday-Thursday AM/PM, Friday synchronous check in
and asynchronous learning • Monday-Thursday Day on, Day off, Friday synchronous
check in and asynchronous learning
Will continue to offer
• Distance Learning • Independent Study
Distance Learning
• Is distance learning available to individual students who are at-risk or whose parents have a concern about their student participating in in-person learning?
• Yes, distance learning must be offered for students who are medically fragile, would be put at risk by in person instruction, or who are self-quarantining because of concerns of exposure to COVID-19. https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/cr/dl/distlearningfaqs.asp
Hubs
With distance learning requirements, some hubs would continue to be offered with return to in person instruction options:
• Internet• Conditioning• Student supervision
May be staffed by classified or certificated.
Status Quo3 Options- Distance Learning, Distance Learning with Hubs, Independent Study
Benefits Challenges
Consistent schedule and instructional model Hubs are getting up and running (internet, grade level, subject area)Flexibility for studentsFlexibility for teachers
We miss our kids!Students not attending in person Social-emotional issuesAttendance and engagementAsynchronous work completion ChildcareStudent nutritionInternet access
AM/PM
Half of students in the morning and half in the afternoon, Monday-ThursdayFriday- synchronous check in, asynchronous learning
Benefits Challenges
Students on campus Monday-ThursdayIn person instruction Monday-ThursdayOnce established, consistent schedule for familiesTeachers can intervene quickly with daily contact (Mon-Thur)
Transportation- pm only transportStaffingTime for screeningNumber of student contactsCleaning between cohortsCohort MixingOutbreak would require another transitionChildcare Scheduling 7-12
AM or PM (Blended Learning)- ElementaryElementary (TK-6)- teachers would prioritize math, reading and writing for in person instruction. Remainder of day would be asynchronous independent practice at home, social studies, science, music and art.
Draft times are as follows:
Elementary (TK-6)
Draft times are as follows:
AM Cohort: 8:10-10:50 (2 hours, 40 minutes)
Cleaning of classrooms and other areas: 10:50-12:20
PM Cohort: 12:20-3:00 (2 hours, 40 minutes)
AM or PM (Blended Learning)- Jr/Sr. High
Junior/Senior High (7th-12th)- students enroll in six classes*
and attend 3 periods per day.
Draft times are as follows:
AM Cohort: 8:10-11:00
Cleaning of classrooms and other areas: 11:00-12:25
PM Cohort: 12:25-3:15
7th period asynchronous classes will remain asynchronous
What would Friday look like?In order to meet the daily live interaction requirement, Synchronous learning will be required.
• Elementary: 8:30-8:50 Zoom check in with teacher, then asynchronous learning
• Jr./Sr. High: 8:30-8:50 Advisory/Homeroom , then asynchronous learning
Teachers will be engaged in the following:
• Planning and preparing in person lessons for Mon-Thur• Planning and preparing asynchronous lessons for Mon-Fri• Student and family meetings (IEPs, SST meetings)• Communicating with students and families • Collaboration with colleagues • Engaging in professional learning for asynchronous instruction
Day on, Day off
• A Day/B Day- every other day student attends school
• A: Mon/Wed, B: Tue/Thur• Friday- synchronous check in, asynchronous
learning• Daily live interaction on non in person days • 7th period asynchronous classes will remain
asynchronous
Day on, Day offBenefits Challenges
In person instruction, two days per weekOnce established, consistent schedule for familiesMaximizes on campus time for students- (screening once per day, cleaning after school)Transportation
Daily live interaction requirement on asynchronous days Cohort mixingLunch supervision and social distancing4 days in a row not at schoolLong time wearing a face covering for students.Staffing for internet hubsScheduling 7-12

Cohort Mixing
• Regardless of size, a cohort is a specific group of students• A hub is a small cohort• AM/PM would be two large cohorts
• Cohorts could end up mixed if we go to AM/PM:• By grade level or combo grade level• By elective/enrichment (Culinary, computers, art)• By sport/activity (Basketball, Football, conditioning)• Other afterschool activities (Apollo)• By families after school
Cohort Mixing
• Risks from cohort mixing can be mitigated by: • Sanitizing/cleaning between cohorts
• Frequent hand washing
• Physical distancing
• Use of face coverings
Budget - CARES • Plan is dependent on instructional model• Existing Expenditures
• Curriculum• Health & Safety• Technology - student cases, second monitors, doc cams • Training• Food Service• Transportation• Operational (electronic processing)• Personal Protective Equipment - thermometers, coverings,
gloves, etc.
