1. Update on Carers Strategy
Steve O’Connor talked about the Knowsley Carers June Newsletter – “You said. We did”.
Carers Work Groups have been talking about what needs to happen to give them support and a life of their own.
One of the top five achievements is a Break for Carers. This gives carers time away for themselves to do whatever they want to do.
The carers’ group’s work has made sure that the money used is fair for all.
A GP Link Worker has been working with staff from doctor’s surgeries to put together a GP Practice Guide: 10 Steps to Supporting Carers.
Peer Support Groups are groups of people who have similar issues, they get together and help each other with things like filling in forms, or finding training and support.
An Advocacy service is also provided.
A new parents group has been set up in Homestart and will work with the community cooks to help people become better at cooking meals for their families.
Four training sessions for staff have taken place in Children’s Centres and with Family First.
The parents also ran an event for Autism Awareness Day which was very well attended.
The Board discussed the problems of finding parents in some areas and those who do not have the confidence to attend.
It is important to work with parents and staff to find out what is working well / not working well.
Parents are still finding it hard to get the right support.
The Board asked Vicki to write up her findings on what we need to do next and send this out with the minutes of the meeting.
Lorna Pink talked about the health team’s role which includes providing assessments on request and the different types of support.

Nita thanked Vicki for her work so far and reminded the Board about the importance of this project.

3. Employment Update
Stuart Sheridan is now working on the KITE project and is working with CIC and Nugent Care.
The number of people in paid employment has now gone up from 16 to 19 but needs to continue to go up to meet the targets we set for ourselves.
It may be that by 2025 there will be the same amount of people with Learning Disabilities as Physical Disabilities with 45% in employment.
The KITE project is doing a good job but still finding problems due to the lack of money and not many jobs at the moment.
Jobs need to be found in the Council and NHS.
Support from KITE has changed and supported employment services will be provided mainly by CIC
