Unfortunately, even though rainforests are incredible—they are being
chopped down. There is a special science word for this called
deforestation.
There are lots of different reasons why the rainforest is being chopped
down:- it is mostly destroyed for people to make money.
Companies clear the land for farming— up to 80% of the Amazon
rainforest has been deforested for cattle ranching (cows which are sold to
make beef.)
A football pitch every 11 seconds is chopped down to grow a crop called
palm oil— this is found in a lot of things in the supermarket.
Another reason is to use the land for homes or to use the trees to make
furniture.
