What Parent Council IS (Terms of reference)

A Parent Council is a body of parents which represents parents and provides a forum for them to put forward their views to the head teacher and the governing body of their children’s school via the Parent Governors. Parent Councils are a more accessible way to involve more parents in decisions about the school. A Parent Council can be less formal and require a lesser commitment than being a member of the governing body. It also enables more parents to make a real contribution to their child’s school

Page 8: Parent council meeting 13th may 2015

The Bishop John Robinson Primary School Parent Council will focus initially on three key roles

Providing a route through which parents as a group advise the governing body and school leadership of their views and for the governing body and school leadership to consult and discuss issues with parents

Reaching out to parents and bringing parents together

Enabling parents to get involved in the life of the school, including supporting learning activities inside and outside of school hours

Paths Plus Programme Intervention: Barnardo’s PATHS Plus PATHS has been used widely with children from 5 to 11-years-old in

mainstream school settings, working across the whole of the school. Friendship Groups target higher-risk children displaying emotional,

behavioural or social problems in school or community settings.. The programme will address social and emotional learning, resilience

and skills development in children on a universal and targeted basis. Inspired by the Fast Track approach in the USA, schools will be supported with training, implementation and technical assistance.

PATHS is provided by teachers to their whole class, from Reception to Year 6, through approximately two 25-40 minute lessons per week. It is developmental and comprised of scripted lessons addressing five conceptual domains:

self-control emotional understanding positive self-esteem relationships interpersonal problem-solving skills
