Dear Potential Planner,

Being a part of Urban and Regional Planning Study Program of Universitas Gadjah Mada, is kind of pride. It is because We want educate you not only skill full, but also full of knowledge, but with ethical and strong moral integrated. By following the entire program both in the classroom and outside, you will be designed to be great researchers or planners in this field. Your contribution can be defined in the area of government or bureaucracy, consultant, developer, and Non-Government Organization (NGO) that are ready to assist the community to develop its potential. In term to be like what We have mentioned, you have to be ready to contribute in that fourth area, nationally or internationally. At last, this academic guide book is structured to be your guideline basis at approximately 4 years in this beloved University.

This handbook contains, alumni profiles derived from the vision and mission of the study program, the basic values of UGM and basic values of planning in UGM, and We also give explanation of the subjects and syllabus, however, beyond that, at the end of this manual also provides an overview of additional capabilities that you need such as soft skills and vocational training to master as early as possible. Also We include in this guide various facilities around the campus and campus life of Yogyakarta, which is quite convenient. We hope that with this guide, you can spend your time during the four years to build a carrier perspective future and better life for yourself, for your family, and for the wider community, as well as for scientific planning of cities and regions.

Profile ofUrban and Regional Planning

Established in 2003, Urban and Regional Planning of Universitas Gadjah Mada is a planning school that obtained A score of accreditation (by National Accreditation Board 2010). Until now, this program has produced many graduates that have had their own career on government agencies, consultants, developers, and Non-Governement Organizations. There are also alumni that continued their master or doctoral degree on many well-known universities around the world.

To be an internationally recognized study program in urban and regional planning in Asia, focused on spatial engineering on the basis of moral values of democracy, equality, empowerment, justice, and

balance for sustainability and the glory of human civilization

MISSION

1. To conduct high quality education in order to produce professional urban and regional planner who posseses moral integrity

2. To develop scientific knowledge for bridging the gap between planning theory and planning practice in the real world

3. To actively contribute in shaping better civilization through urban and regional planning education

GOALTo educate professional urban and regional planning graduates with moral integrity, who are able to

work in government institution, planning consultant, property developer, and non governmental organization, in order to promote the creation of empowering place.

Working Continuing Study in Master Degree

Graduating from URP-SP, students can choose to work in specific field that they like. In average, the alumni of URP-SP only need 3-5 months after graduation to get their first job. Besides, it is known that there are 73% of alumni that got job which is relevant with urban and regional planning theory.

Mentioning the alumni that have worked, many of them are working in the government agencies, such as National Planning Board, Regional Planning Board, Ministry (like Ministry of General Work, Housing, Agriculture and Forestry, and others), property developer, consultant like GIZ, and NGO like ITDP.

In other hand, all graduated students can get great opportunity to continue their study. Some

of alumni have gotten their master degree in many well-known universities all ove the world.

They can choose specialization subjects based on their passion which relevant with the urban

and regional planning issues.

Some of our alumni continue their master degree in Japan and England. Otherwise, many of them continue their study overseas because they got scholarships that can support them till

they finish the master program.

There are available facilities such as:- Enough and Comfortable Classroom- Studio Room- Library or Reference Room- Housing, Urban and Regional Planning Laboratory- Information and Technology Room- Exhibition Room- Lecturer Room- Innercourt- Administration and Academic Staff Room - Facilities for Emergency Situation- Facilities for Difable

Having 5 classrooms which has complete facilities such as projector,LCD Screen, and Microphone.

There are more than 8.000 collections of book, journals, final projectreports and other that can be referenced by students.

Studio is arranged based on the number of studio groups which makes active interaction in groups and group-lecturer.

Innercourt is an open space facility with two traditionalbuildings to support students’ activity.

Student Activities

2Balancing the academic activities of students, it is allowed for URP students to join other activities such as Student Organization, Pramukya Arcapada which helps students to develop their leadership level (1).

Besides joining student organization, female student can join the URP Saman group. It is an traditional group dance from Aceh, Indonesia. In additional information, our saman team has gained some international achievements (2).

cBeside organization and art activities, there are some student activities which is oriented into sport activity and teamwork. They are planolympic (a) or spartan now, planologi genjot (b), and malam keakraban (c).

Planolympic, spartan now, is an championship event that is followed by active students in all batch in URP.

Planologi genjot, or planjot, is a bicycling agenda. All students can use their own bikes or even rent bike facilities in campus.

Malam keakraban is an annual event to welcome new student in order to increase their friendship level and also to start good relationship with the previous students from previous batchs.

Student Life in Yogyakarta

Supporting facilities such as regional library, book and stationary store, computer rentals, and others are easy to find in Yogyakarta.

Yogyakarta has adequate health facilities that offer various health service level that which has complete and affordable facilities.

As a complementary, Yogyakarta has various entertainment facilities like shopping centers, cinemas, parks, museums, beaches, and other recreational places.

Yogyakarta is well-known as center of learning city. Having 3,200,000 inhabitants, Yogyakarta is comfortable and safe city to live as long as you complete your study program.

It is relatively easy to look for decent settlements to live. Students can live in students dormitory like Bulaksumur Residence, rented rooms, or even rented house that can be lived with some of friends.

As culinary option, Yogyakarta is a city that offers various affordable food. There are many menu options that can be selected depends on their taste.

For transportation option, there are many public transportation options that can be used such as Trans Jogja, local buses, ojek, and taxi. These are some options that can help easy mobility in Yogyakarta.
