Subsidised Transit Passes for Students. P.A.L.S. is part of the English Language Coalition of Agencies teaching English as a Second Language. Our ESL students, Hoa, Dong and Turgay made a presentation to City Council TransportationCommittee on Wednesday, May 7. They requested that part-time ESL students receive a subsidisedtransit pass for $35 per month. The Mayor, Mr Don Iveson, commended our students on theirpresentations, and the City Councillors were sympathetic to this request.

Ernest and Maryna, also attended the City Transportation Meeting. Linh Vu, who wrote one of the bestletter supporting our request could not attend.

Opportunities to appear before City Councilare important learning opportunities forESL students to find out how municipalgovernment works, and how decisions thataffect your quality of life may be influencedat your local government level.

Turgay and Mahenaz were interviewed tospeak to this issue by CBC Radio. Turgay’sphoto and interview is available on the CBCRadio Edmonton a.m. website.
