Principal’s Report Amanda Williams Education Week and Open Morning next Tuesday 21 st May 9.15-11am To celebrate Education Week, FPS will be holding an Open Classroom morning. Come along to our Open Morning next Tuesday 21 st May from 9.15-11am. This is a great opportunity for you to see our classrooms and learning in action! If you would like a more formalised tour of the school with the Principal and our Student Leaders, please come to the school office where a tour will commence at 9.15am. These tours are attended by many prospective families, but our current families are always welcome to attend as well. School Tours are a wonderful opportunity to hear about the teaching and learning programs that happen at FPS and to also ask questions. 2019 NAPLAN Well done to our Year 3 and 5 students who completed NAPLAN- National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy testing this week. NAPLAN is made up of 4 assessments over 3 days with a focus on Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation), Reading, Writing and Numeracy. This year the writing genre was Narrative, with students writing to prompts about “beyond the gate”. There were some really interesting stories written by our students. The NAPLAN assessments are nationwide and occur for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The assessments are marked externally and we receive the results later in the year. To ensure our students are prepared for the NAPLAN testing experience and to also reduce student stress levels, FPS teachers introduce practise samples prior to the testing and set up the classroom in a special seating plan a few days in advance. This year we were visited by a NAPLAN assessor to ensure that all processes and the administration was being correctly implemented by teachers and our NAPLAN Coordinator – Assistant Principal Laura Boylan. We passed with flying colours! Whilst NAPLAN is a part of National assessments and can cause anxiety for some, we also remind our students and families that NAPLAN is a snapshot of how students work on one particular day. Our FPS based assessments are ongoing and based on many opportunities and a variety of rich experiences for students to show and celebrate what they have learnt. Flemington Education Plan- The Flemington Education Plan is an opportunity to contribute your ideas about how to support and create outstanding educational opportunities for ALL students being educated in Flemington. This incorporates Mount Alexander College, Ascot Vale Special School, Debney’s Park PS and of course Flemington PS. Feedback from the community is currently being sought so as to inform future planning for educational delivery. This week DET consultants have run workshops with staff and students to seek their input into the plan. Consultants will be attending our FPS Coffee Club on Tuesday 28 th May 8.30-9.30am and will also be present after our school assembly on Friday 7 th June 3.10-3.30pm for FPS parents and carers to offer input. If you are unable to attend these sessions, your input can be provided on the following link. In addition, a flier has been sent home with your child. www.schoolbuildings.vic.gov.au >>>>>Cont. Debney’s Park Community Plan

The Moonee Valley Council is seeking community input into 3 options for the development of community facilities at Debney’s Park. Consultation has been taking place at FPS with visits to our FPS Coffee Club on Tuesday mornings. Our Student Representative Council also provided their feedback on the 3 development options. Please see https://yoursay.mvcc.vic.gov.au/Flemington to provide your input and feedback.

And finally… Padman Lane morning drivers, A huge thank you to those drivers who drive slowly and safely and drop off their children in a safe manner. We do understand that mornings can be very busy for families but safety comes first and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that FPS students’ safety is a priority. I receive complaints and even photos about parent’s bad driving on a weekly basis! Please, please, please drive slowly and safely. In addition, please do not park in the staff carparks or the disabled carparks. We have students in wheel chairs who need those carparks! We also have parents who require and have authorised access to disabled car parks. To the parents who are rude and abusive to our staff who are trying to help, please stop! Our staff are doing their duty of care and are looking out for the safety of our children. To those drivers who do the right thing, thank you and please keep doing the right thing. The Buildings and Grounds Subcommittee is discussing options to ensure a safer drop off for students. Until these improvements are made, please adhere to all traffic rules and staff requests and instructions. Thank you for your assistance with this- I know that we can do better!

Happy Learning!
