PhotodesignInstructor / Course: Cory Kerr, Visual Media COMM 130

Date: March 27, 2015

Programs Used:Adobe Photoshop

Description: A showcase of my knowledge of Photoshop. I used objects around my house to create an image that would show my personality, as well as a

color scheme.

Objectives:Learn basic photography skills. Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout. Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers. Size and crop the image, Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic

elements in Photoshop.

Process: To create this image, I took a photo in my living room with a blanket backdrop. I used Photoshop to create the image here, placing a box with a brick fill and two more boxes with an indigo and lime fill. I also used the pen tool to trace the pattern on the blanket to create my color swatches. I used the text tool to input the text. I enhanced picture to create a better

more clear image.

BrochureInstructor / Course: Cory Kerr, Visual Media COMM 130

Date: March 27, 2015

Programs Used:Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign

Description: I created a brochure to advertise swim lessons. I created an offset brochure, with a new logo. The outside is the title page, with the inner left panel describing lessons for adults, the inner right panel showcasing lessons for kids. The back panel is contact information as well as the

benefits of swimming.

Objectives:Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate at least four quality images. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text

follows the clipped shape of the image.

Process: First, I designed my new logo, in Illustrator. I used the shape builder tool to create a single image. I then used the pen tool to create the wave. Which is cut out to reveal the water texture on the panel directly underneath. Then I transferred my logo into InDesign. I also used Photoshop to create the clipped image on the back and text wrapped the paragraph around the

swimmer’s head. I also used paragraph styles to create a unified image.

Programs Used:Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign

Description: I have created a letterhead for my TC Swimming Company. Here I showcase my ability to create a design with gestalt, I also wanted my design to be one that reflected the image of professionalism I wanted my company

to be known for.

Objectives: Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Photos are okay on business card and letterhead as additional design elements. Keep designs simple. Include

contact information,

Process: For this project, I used Illustrator to create the unique and professional logo. I then transferred this logo into InDesign where I designed the rest of the letterhead. Using the shape tool I created boxes with which I chose a fill that matched my logo. I also used Illustrator to create a very light spiral

watermark, to create the look of a ripple.

Date: February 27, 2015

Programs Used:Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign

Description: For my Business cards I wanted to create a design that went with my logo as well as with my letterhead. So I have repeating elements in both. In both I have the same logo, as well as typefaces. I also have the repeating feature of

the spiral, to create the image of a ripple.

Process: I used Illustrator to create the logo, and the spiral. I then transferred the logo and spiral into InDesign where I completed my design. Using the opacity setting to create the spiral into a water mark to match my letterhead. I also used just a simple box shape to create the background for the back of the card.

swimming focus.

Objectives: Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message. Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image Apply typography principles.

Format type: Legibility; Theme word(s) Select good quality images

Process: I used Photoshop to create this project. I used the background which I enhanced to become clearer. I also used a separate layer to incorporate the swimmer into the picture. I then used the brush tool to fade out her original background and place her into my image. I also used a new layer to add the

text to create a non-destructive change.

Logos Instructor / Course: Cory Kerr, Visual Media COMM 130

Date: February 20, 2015

Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator

Description: I created three separate logos. I wanted to have three different messages that could be sent with each logo. The first logo is much more professional and business-like. The second logo is aimed at the high school age

swimmer, and the last logo is aimed toward the younger audience.

Objectives: Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos.

Process:I used Illustrator to create these logos. I used just a simple black rounded box and text tools to create the first logo. For the second logo I used the ellipse tool to create a circle then I used the white arrow tool to create a drop shape. For the last logo, I used the ellipse tool to create the lenses of the goggles and the pen tool to create the band in the back.

Programs Used: Microsoft Word

Description: For this project, I wanted to create a swim-a-thon for Lupus research. I used only images that I scanned in from other sources. I wanted this design to be themed around swimming and swimmers. This design is trying to send a

message to swimmers to help for a good cause.

Objectives: Comprehend image sizing. Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design. Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience. Learn to use only Word design features without

using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process: I used Microsoft Word for this project. I found that there is a lot that Word can do. I first placed the background and then created text boxes for all of my text. For the date, time, and place I used a curved box shape with some

transparency to create an easy to read text placement.

I also used the photo that would best cause the viewer to flow into the most important information. I also used a box shape with a black fill to create more contrast

for the title.
