  • Description: Inspiration montage

    Programs: Photoshop

    Date: 2/14/15

    Course: COMM 130, Visual Media

Instructor: Joel Judkins Objectives: To help people to remember to get back up when they may feel they have fallen. Process: I chose the two photos from Google. Originally the entire picture was very green however, I chose to darken the sky and grass using the select tool, and changing the huge and saturation. I blended in the hands using a mask, and I made the text see through by using the overlay effect. I loved the font because it was bold and modern looking, but is actually this kind of partial oldstyle. I tried to leave as much whitespace as possible to make it feel open like the field.

  • Description: A brochure for Yellow Stone Park

    Programs: Photoshop,In Design, Illustrator

    Date: 3/28/15

    Course: COMM 130, Visual Media

Instructor: Joel Judkins Objectives: Inform and intice people to come to Yellowstone. Process: I used photos that I had taken and enhanced them in photoshop. I used the contrast and brightness tools to make adjustments to the photos. I also cropped one of my wolf photos and added a mask to it to blend it into the picture. I made a text wrap around that wolf to give the photo more depth and reality. I also used illustrator to create a new logo.I used the ellipse tool to make the round globe and the brush tool to fill in the landmarks on the globe. In In Design I placed all photos and text.

The FeelThick fog envelopes everything. You cant see the boardwalk beneath you, but you know it is there. The wind whips in around you, and for a moment, you glimpse faded figures ahead of you. You take a step forward.

Come and See There is something in Yellowstone that will enchant anyone who comes to explore it. From the fountain paint pots to the prismatic springs to old faithful herself, natures explosive beauty is everywhere. There seems to be no end to Mother Natures mysteries, which can be observed, learned about, and experienced in Yellowstone. Come and get a taste for yourself.

Suddenly the steam, warm and wet against your skin, is lifted. There you are. You catch your breath, and take in the beauty of Yellowstone, the worlds first national park.

Yellowstone and its eye opening beauty, has been a sanctuary for hundreds of wildlife and people for over a century. This time of year, with snow powdering the ground and spattering the branches of the evergreens, it is a perfect place to sojourn for a soul looking for peace.

The WildlifeAlong with the beauty of geysers and springs there are also the wild creatures that live in Yellowstone. Wolves, bears, and deer all inhabit Yellowstone, and you can get close enough to touch them in the Wolfe and Bear Discovery Center. Located not far from the park itself, the Wolf and Bear Discovery Center provides tour guides who know everything about the animals that live in Yellowstone and who are willing to answer all your questions while helping you get close to these amazing predators.

  • Description: A bussinesscard for a potential business.

    Programs: illustrator, In Design

    Date: 2/28/15

    Course: COMM 130, Visual Media

Instructor: Joel Judkins Objectives: Make an attractive bussiness card. Process: I used illustrator to get most of the designs together, it seemed easier to work. I wanted it to be simple just like the logo itself. I wanted the petals to look more like a real flower so I stretched the petals on the logo and then used that flower to pattern my other designs. I tried to keep it classy like the font. I wanted it to be a little boxy on the edges of the loops to keep in style with the font. I felt it added a nice touch to it.

    Course: COMM 130, Visual Media

Instructor: Joel Judkins Objectives: Create a letter head that could be used for a logo we designed ourselves. • Description: These are three logos I designed for a floral store called The Little Flower Shop.

    Programs: Illustrator

    Date: 2/21/15

    Course: COMM 130, Visual Media

Instructor: Joel Judkins Objectives: Make a logo that was simple, attractive, and informative for the store. Process: I used the type tool first on all of my designs. I wanted red and old style because it was more antique looking and classy. I also made the word little bigger than everything else to add contrast. for the second one I felt the simple was the best way to go. For the last one I decided I wanted to emphasize the little shop part of the logo so I used the shape tools to make the flower look like it was coming out of the shop.

  • Description: This is an Ad for a Run for the Cure event taking place at BYU-Idaho.

    Programs: Microsoft Word

    Date: 1/31/15

    Course: COMM 130, Visual Media

Instructor: Joel Judkins Objectives: Attract people to Run for the Cure and inform them about the event. Process: I used word as my design program. I scanned an image I found in an addition of Rangefinder. I decided I wanted white and black for my color scheme because thats what this is, serious, dramatic.I used Optima as my first font because it looks fragile and thin, modern, and elegant. I then decided to set apart who the race sponsor was to make it catch attention and to not take away from the rest of the design. I felt that a simple line made the message easy to catch.

  • Description: Graduate Leadership Conference Flier.

    Programs: In Design

    Date: 1/24/15

    Course: COMM 130, Visual Media

Instructor: Joel Judkins Objectives: Help attract graduates to a leadership conference. Process: I first decided that I wanted to make this flier stick out. I wanted it to be unique. I used the placing and gathering tools to make and fill the black rectangular shape, let the picture be framed by it. The black and white were a natural choice for contrast. I tried to align everything with either side of the picture, and felt to give it white space and legibility I would need to break up the text. So, a nice san serif family combination seemed the perfect choice to keep it modern and practical.

  • Description: This is a web page desplaying a logo.

    Programs: Photoshop and Text Wrangler

    Date: 3/14/15

    Course: COMM 130, Visual Media

Instructor: Joel Judkins Objectives: Help people to know about the Little Flower Shop and its logo. Process: I used a lot of coding. I took some time to look up ways to add a background using CSS and how to round corners. I also went and found a website to give me better and more unique fonts for my websites than those that are commonly found in the adobe programs. I added my own unique flare adding a touch of color, but making the monochromatic theme a little bit unexpected. I know that its simple, but it is classic just like the logo.

    Web Page

  • Description: This is a poster using a color scheme to motivate people to do good. Programs: Photoshop

    Date: 2/7/15

    Course: COMM 130, Visual Media

Instructor: Joel Judkins Objectives: Help people see that confidence is key in living life right. Process: I took a lead picture of my friend, because I felt that he made a great contrast to the gray wall. I then picked the quote to match his personality and what I felt was the feel of the photograph. The color scheme came from his shirt, beanie, and the buttons on this jacket. I wanted to keep the original feel of the photograph and keep it clean, so I just added little touches of color to make it bold but simple.
