A Unique Online DMAIC Simulation

SigmaBrew DMAIC® by MoreSteam provides your Lean Six Sigma deployment with a rich, simulated project, where students can apply tools and techniques in a safe constructive practicecan apply tools and techniques in a safe, constructive practice environment.

It is a unique online program designed with alternate decision based pathways, identical to the challenges and ambiguity that Belts encounter in real‐world projects. Working through the DMAIC phases, students must decide how to collect and analyze data implement improvements and develop control strategiesdata, implement improvements, and develop control strategies, all the while minimizing project expenses and cycle time.

SigmaBrew DMAIC is not a prescriptive walk‐through of a series of tools. Instead, it realistically represents a project environment that requires analytical thinking to understand the complexity of the case study.

SigmaBrew DMAIC® introduces you to a company called SigmaBrew - a large national chain of specialty coffeeSigmaBrew - a large national chain of specialty coffee shops.

SigmaBrew has experienced explosive expansion over the previous decade, and is starting to encounter increasingly troublesome growing pains, including operational problems that impact customer satisfaction. Meanwhile, the competitive environment has also become increasinglycompetitive environment has also become increasingly difficult, with new and sophisticated competitors on all fronts.

Th i bj ti f l f th i l ti i tThe primary objective for players of the simulation is to improve customer satisfaction while spending the least amount of time and money to do so.

SigmaBrew DMAIC Dynamics

SigmaBrew DMAIC® is an online multi-player game that is best run in a workshop environmentrun in a workshop environment.

Designed as a component used in Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt training programs, this simulation takes about 2-3 days to complete.

Played in teams of 2 or 3 students, SigmaBrew DMAIC® creates a friendly team-based competitive experiencefriendly, team based, competitive experience.

The simulation can be run all at once or over a longer period to align with the traditional DMAIC-phase training format.

SigmaBrew DMAIC Process

Your students first receive background information on the company. This helps them to understand the company structure and current business environmentand current business environment.

Phase Options

I h DMAIC h th T tIn each DMAIC phase, the Team must make decisions on which of the options to select.

The range of opportunity is to choose all, some, or none of the options.

All options will provide the teams withAll options will provide the teams with data collection opportunities.

Phase Options

Within each Option, there may be multiple types of data to collect, each with a cost and time component.

Since the goal of the simulation is to improve customer satisfaction while spending the least amount of time and money, teams must take a balanced approach to data collection.

The output of the Options may be graphical, raw data needed for statistical analysis, videos, and many other real-world examples

Tollgate Questions

Once a team feels it is well equipped with the data needed to complete the phase it begins acomplete the phase, it begins a tollgate review.

The team must answer a series of critical questions, which can include scenarios on team dynamics, to demonstrate their mastery of the phase and projectmastery of the phase and project.

Some questions may require students to analyze and interpret th d t th h ld hthe data they should have collected in the phase. Teams can go back and collect more data, but at a much higher price!g p

Additional Learning Activities

Beyond the education that happens when teams are working through the SigmaBrew DMAIC project, your instructors have the flexibility to incorporate many optional learning activities, such as:

P T ll t P t ti t t t th• Prepare Tollgate Presentations to present to the group.• Share output, such as project charters or process maps, for

peer-to-peer reviews.• Update corporate project tracking system as if working on a

real-life project.• Facilitate group discussion to analyze the decisions of each

team and the impact on their projects.
