Our customer is a large Australian iron ore mining company and one of the largest iron ore producer in the world.
Challenge
The company embarked on a strategic initiative to transform their operating model. As part of the initiate, the customer was analyzing different IT solutions to support the new operating model and business processes. Two key options included staying on their existing SAP solution or moving to S/4HANA.
Potentially moving to S/4HANA represented a significant investment and there are different options available to move to S/4HANA (mainly new greenfield implementations and alternatively a conversion of existing SAP ECC to S/4HANA). The cost between the different options differs vastly in the order of magnitude of 8-10 times.
The customer was seeking more data to support their decision-making process. Leveraging a demo or model company S/4HANA system did not meet the Miner’s requirement as they needed to make the evaluation based on a S/4HANA system that is based on their current SAP solution.
Solution
In the period of two months, SoftwareONE planned and delivered a fully converted S/4HANA system to the customer’s project team based on their existing SAP ECC production system. SoftwareONE also supported the assessment of conversion impacts (e.g. upgrading to functionality, custom code, interfaces etc.).
Outcome
The findings related to the conversion of the company’s SAP ECC system to S/4HANA allowed them to make a comprehensive impact assessment (process, risk, cost, time to deploy, etc.). This assessment provided robust and detailed information in determining the best IT platform solution to support the new operating model.

A Taste for ValueCustomer Overview
The customer is a global beer, spirits, soft drinks and food business group headquartered in Japan.
Challenge
As part of a major business transformation, the customer decided to introduce a new operating model and decided that S/4HANA would be the right solution to the business. Key objectives of the new operating model included offering retail customers a digital purchasing platform as well as address industry changes in terms of product and margin developments.
As part of the process re-design, the company’s objective was also to consolidate previously fragmented finance processes and systems.
Due to strenuous timeline pressure, the customer had to commence the project in 2 weeks from a standing start and deliver the first project landscape within 6 weeks.
Solution
SoftwareONE planned and designed the implementation of the new S/4HANA solution (plus other supporting SAP applications) in support of the introduction of the new operating model. AWS was the customer’s chosen platform for hosting the new SAP solution including sophisticated high-availability and disaster recovery capabilities as well as automation features.
Outcome
SoftwareONE mobilized and delivered the first project landscape in a record 6 weeks enabling the other project parties to continue with project activities, i.e. avoid costly delays.
The customer’s new SAP S/4HANA solution was delivered by SoftwareONE in 8 months and allowed them to introduce the operating model changes to the business. The Business was also in a position to realize cost savings by consolidating finance processes and systems as well as gain more detailed and timeline insights into financial information.
