I remember when I was in elementary school I would look at the clock and watch as the seconds slowly ticked by. It seemed like the bell was never going to ring and I was in a horror movie that kept time from moving. I was anxious for time to hurry up and also anxious to grow up. Now I wish that time would slow down and that my birthdays didn’t come around so quickly. I don’t even long for the work week to go by quickly so the weekend will get here. I just want everything to slow down. Our world is so busy and chaotic and everyone is always in a rush here or there. We are always looking for more convenient and quick ways to get anything done so we can do more useless things. We shop online, we eat less so we don’t have to take as much time exercising, and we use remote controls so we don’t have to get up and turn things on and off. We have vacuum cleaners that vacuum by themselves and dishwashers so we don’t have to wash dishes by hand. The list goes on and on. Of course, many of the things that we have created as a human race do make things easier which enables us to have more quality time with our family. The computer is an amazing invention that has bolstered ideas and creativity. In 2013 almost 84% of households had a computer of some kind. That number is undoubtedly higher now and will continue to rise. One thing that makes the computer practical and more usable is having Internet access, and wireless Internet access (WiFi) is by far the most popular way to access the Internet. In December of 2014 Belmont Village installed WiFi throughout the entire building and now you can access it from anywhere in the building. If you are interested in using our WiFi, please ask the Concierge for network and password information. Also take time to read about our WiFi on the sign posted between the Great Room and Josephine’s Kitchen. I hope you all find it very helpful to have WiFi and that it is just one convenience that makes your 2015 a great year. Happy surfing! Learning all about emails!

Circle of Friends
Tree trimming!
December was a month thatnaturally focused on the holidayseason. We learned quite a bitabout the origin of many of thetraditions surrounding thesewonderful holidays. For example, why do we have Christmas trees? How did the tradition of giftgiving originate and why do wehang ornaments? We also learnedabout Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, andthe way in which New Year’s iscelebrated in various countriesaround the world. What a month!
Neighborhood
Fun with Monica!
We did a whole lot ofcelebrating in the Neighborhoodduring the month of December.Between the parties, caroling, andholiday themed craft projects, wesure were busy! Of course, we alsowent on a special evening scenicdrive to see some of the Christmaslights around town. Thanks to thehelp of family members, we alsoenjoyed our first of many movienights in the Town Hall, withpopcorn, soda, and a viewing ofMiracle on 34th St. We definitelyended 2014 with a bang!
Health
Positive ThinkingLast month Dianne Cooper,
our Outside Sales and MarketingCommunity RelationsRepresentative, facilitated ourHealth Education Class. Her topicwas “How Positive Thinking CanImprove Your Health.”
At the end of the class, theresidents were asked threequestions:
What brings you joy in this“season” of your life? What thingsare you learning in this “season”of your life? How is this “season”of your life different than youthought it would be?
Here are some of the answersthat the residents gave during ourdiscussion:
• Moving here was anadventure and each dayafterward has been anadventure. There is so muchto do and so many peoplewho really care about us -staff and other residents. Thepeople on our hallway arereally our neighbors and theylook out for us.
• I feel I can live each day tothe fullest.
• I feel peace. It took me awhile to adjust but now I amvery peaceful about my life.
• I am surrounded by myfamily (with photographs) soeven though they are nothere (they are all over theworld) I can “see” them. They selected Belmont for mebecause they love and careabout me. They did a goodjob.
• I feel protected.• I feel content with my life.• It never occurred to me that I
would ever live in an AssistedLiving community. I figured Iwould always live at home. IfI had stayed at home theonly activity I would havehad would have been goingto church once a week. Therest of the time I would havebeen alone. This is so muchbetter.
• I like to look for the good ineach day.
• I like options of learning newthings and meeting newpeople.
• I feel content with my life.• Some of the staff members
are really good at makingyou forget your troubles.
• There is so much to do here. The activities are plentifuland enjoyable.
• I am glad I live here.
