We already kicked off this joyous season with our 3rd Annual Casino Night. What fun! We thank all of you who made this night so enjoyable. Please keep your December calendar close by when they arrive! We will again join Lee Park and light Belmont Village at the same time as we participate in Light Up Lee Park on November 29th. Look for Belmont Village to also sparkle this year! If you’ve been making your list and “checking it twice,” you can finish that shopping list on December 2nd at our Annual Jingle Mingle Shop ‘til you drop Christmas Boutique. We have many unique and interesting vendors to provide that special gift. Our SMU Lecture series continues with a very special series, “Legacy of Early Texas Art.” The series is 12/7, 12/14 and 12/21 at 10:30 AM in the Screening Room. Please be sure to share this with friends and family. We are so lucky to host this series! We also welcome friends and families to join us for our Annual Resident Christmas Family Night and sing-a-long on December 14th. On Friday, December 23rd, Darrell James will present a sacred Christmas program. On December 28th, please join us for a Hanukah Service at 5:30 PM in Town Hall along with a special menu that evening in Josephine’s Kitchen. As we anticipate the year 2017, we will ring in the new year a little early on New Year’s Eve with the Dave Washburn Trio at 3 PM in the Great Room on December 31st. This year we will begin a new tradition to give back to our Dallas community. We will donate new unwrapped gift items and toys for local families served by Metrocrest Services. Please make all donations by Thursday, December 15th, and let’s kick this new tradition off with a bang. We have so many events and celebrations to keep us busy during the month, but I do not want this time to fly by without sharing with each of you my sincere and heartfelt gratitude for all your support. What a year. We are so grateful to each and every one of you for making Belmont Village your home. I wish you all a blessed Holiday Season and best wishes for a Happy New Year as does the entire Team at Belmont Village.

SAFETY DURING THEWINTER MONTHS
The winter months can makelife challenging for everyone. Hereare some helpful tips forpreventing common winterdangers that the elderlypopulation face:
• Avoid Slipping on Ice Icy,snowy roads and sidewalksmake it easy to slip and fall.Often these falls cause majorinjuries such as hip and wristfractures, head trauma andmajor lacerations. Make sureto wear shoes with goodtraction and non-skid soles.
• Dress for Warmth Coldtemperatures can lead tofrostbite and hypothermia - acondition where the bodytemperature dips too low.Going outside? Dress inlayers and wear warm socks,a heavy coat, a warm hat, gloves and a scarf (to coveryour mouth and protect yourlungs). In very coldtemperatures, cover allexposed skin.
• Fight WintertimeDepression Because it can bedifficult and dangerous to getaround, many seniors haveless contact with othersduring cold months. To helpavoid feelings of lonelinessand isolation, familymembers should check in onseniors as often as possible;even a short, daily phone callcan make a big difference.
• Check the Car Drivingduring the winter can behazardous for anyone, but itis especially dangerous forolder people. Get your carserviced before wintertimehits. Checking things like theoil, tires, battery and wiperscan make a big difference onwinter roads.
Wintertime certainly poseschallenges for seniors, but with abit of planning and awareness, you will stay healthy andexperience the joys of springtimesoon enough.
