Melting Ice Cubes

Melting ice cubes is a physical change because it does not make anything new and it is still basically the same thing, it is just a change in state from solid to liquid. You can change the water back to ice by

taking the heat away from the water. If you can

change the state back it is a physical change. That is why melting ice cubes is a

physical change.

Burning a Log

The picture of a burning log is an example of a

chemical change. I know this because when the log

is fully burnt it will be ashes which is new stuff. Also you can’t reverse the

change and take the ashes of the log and

reform the log. That is not possible. With a physical change you might be able

to reverse the change.

Roasting a Marshmallow

Roasting a marshmallow is a chemical change

because when you put the marshmallow in the fire it creates something new. The

new thing is the caramelized sugar. That is why it is a chemical change.

Melting Ice Cubes

Melting ice cubes is a example of a physical

because the ice cubes were a solid but now it

turned to a liquid and it’s a physical change because

it hasn’t changed. Because its still a an ice cube it hasn’t changed texture, size or state of

matter.

Fire place

A fire place is a chemical change

because when you burn a log it changes

state in color and texture and turns into ashes and ashes are black it is a different kind of texture.

Tearing a Paper

This experiment is a Physical Change

because if you rip the paper it’s still is paper, you just changed the size and shape of it.

Also a Physical Change ONLY

changes the size, shape, color, texture,

or state of matter.

Chopping wood

This is a physical change because the wood is still

wood, but smaller. In this case it is

not reversible but the chemicals are still the same as the big piece.

Tearing a paperTearing paper is a physical change

because after you tear it, it will still be paper. You are only changing the size or

shape. Even though it does not change color or texture, it ‘s still a

physical change.

Rusting Cars

Rusting cars is a chemical change because the new thing is iron oxide (rust). A chemical

change is when the substance’s

molecules rearrange themselves and make a new substance such

as rust.

Jasen

Melting Ice Cubes

This is a physical change because

ice is H2O (water). Ice is water

because when it’s frozen it is

still H2O. When it melts it is still

H2O.

Dwayne

Burning fuel

Do you know why fueling is a

chemical change? The car burns the gas and use it as

energy. The gas burns and

can’t be reversed.

Joseph

Folding paper

If You fold a piece of paper it will be a physical change

because the paper will still be paper. the

chemicals don’t change or react because there is

now new chemicals being added or

taken.

Ben

Chopping wood

This is a physical change! When chopping wood

it changes the size and shape.

It is still wood. there is no new stuff involved.

Joseph

Roasting a Marshmallow

Roasting a marshmallow is

a chemical change because

it’s turning crispy and it’s caramelized

sugar.

Joshua

Tearing Paper

When you tear paper do you think it is a physical change?

Yes! You’re right. The only thing that

changes is size and shape. It is a physical change because it’s

still paper.

Hanna

Vinegar and Baking Soda

Baking soda and vinegar is a example of a chemical change. I know I’m correct

because if you pour the vinegar in the baking soda, there will be a

reaction between them and you won’t be able to

reverse it. I also know that I’m correct because it

adds a new chemical. In this case, the new chemical is carbon

dioxide.

Crumpled Paper

A crumpled piece of paper is an example of a

physical change because it changes shape. If it only

changes shape it is a physical change because a physical change occurs

when the color, shape, size, texture or state of

matter changes its form.

Madhavi

Ice Cubes Melting

When ice is melting it is a physical change

because you just change the state of

matter from a solid to a liquid. A physical

change is the shape, size, color, texture or

state of matter.

Rusting cars

A rusting car is an example of a

chemical change because the car

has a new chemical on it. the new chemical is

iron oxide!It’s not reversible.

Nicole

Rotting Apples

This is a chemical change because there

is something new made; mold, and the chemical makeup of the apple is different so the change isn’t

reversible making it a chemical change. `

Ice Cubes Melting

Ice cubes melting is a

physical change because it is still water, the state

of matter changes a solid to a liquid, no

new stuff forms.Selin

Boiling WaterThis picture of boiling

water is an example of a physical change because, one: any change in state is a

physical change, and two: the change can be reversed by taking heat out of the water vapor from the boiling water

and make it water again.

Shivani

Burning a Log

Burning a log is a

chemical change. It is a chemical change because when you burn a

log it changes into ashes which is a

new thing.

Tyrone

Vinegar and Baking Soda

Mixing baking soda and vinegar is an example of a chemical change

because when you mix them together

you get a new substance, carbon

dioxide.

Angel

Slicing Bread

Slicing bread is a physical change because it only changed in size not chemicals. If

it’s a physical change it changes

state of matter, color, size, shape,

or texture.
