Meet the Teachers

Hi, I’m Mrs. Lognion! I have been happily teaching first grade at Folsom Elementary since 2017. Before that, I taught 4th grade math and science in Calcasieu Parish. I was recognied as FES’s 2020-2021 teacher of the year and absolutely love my job!

Mrs. Newell is Folsom Elementary’s first and second grade special education teacher. She comes and goes in our classroom throughout the day to provide intervention and support to my students. We are super lucky to have her! She is FES’s 2021-2022 teacher of the year!

Behavior Chart

– We use a colored clip chart to monitor behavior during the school day.

– Students clip up for positive choices and may clip down for choices they need to reflect on. A clip down only comes after a verbal redirection or warning was given.

– I do not have students circle their color each day to take home. If there is an ongoing behavior issue, we will discuss it privately.

Lunch

– Students only have about 20 minutes once we enter the cafeteria to wash hands, get their tray, and eat.

– Please do not send any cash or coins with them to school for buying items in the cafeteria as this slows down the lunch line. Instead, you may put money on their lunch account via My Payments Plus which is hyperlinked on the cafeteria page on our school website.

– The breakfast and lunch menus can be found on the FES website.

ELA HomeworkPractice to Achieve Student Success

– Purpose: to build reading fluency and comprehension1. One-minute fluency read – increases student's reading rate

and accuracy. Complete comprehension questions on Thursday night.

2. Decodable readers - Read each night for your child to build automaticity related to the phonics skill of the week.

3. Phonics focus page - Practice segmenting and blending the words on this page to reinforce the week’s phonics skill.

4. Handwriting page - Research shows there's something special about language

development and the act of handwriting. In studies, kids who practice handwriting do better at reading and spelling. ... Some experts believe that forming letters by hand while learning sounds activates reading circuits in the brain that promote literacy.

5. Homework is never taken for a grade.

Math Curriculum

– Eureka math is our district-wide curriculum. It teaches students to use several research-based math strategies that have been proven to increase student achievement in math.

– number bonds, tape diagrams, vertical number lines, etc…

– These strategies teach conceptual understanding of numbers and are necessary for students to master the standards and perform well on state standardized testing.

– Zearn is an amazing online platform that reteaches lessons and skills to students, and works at their individual pace. Students will complete 20 minutes of Zearn in class each day.
