In this publication, the State Statistical Office is publishing data on the educational process in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary education, which are collected through the regular annual statistical surveys conducted at the end of the school year 2008/2009 in all types of schools.
The publication comprises data on the number of primary and lower secondary schools (regular, special, adult schools and art schools), their work in shifts, class sections, students by sex and ethnic affiliation, their final results, graduated students, as well as data on school kitchens and libraries. Also, there are a lot of data on teachers according to the type of employment, ethnic affiliation, level of education and supporting staff.
For upper secondary schools (regular and special), in addition to the number of schools, also included are data on class sections, students by sex, ethnic affiliation, qualification, their final results and graduated students according to educational pro-grams, teachers by the type of employment, ethnic affiliation, level of education and supporting staff.
The publication also contains data on the educational process in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary education, which is performed in Albanian, Turkish and Serbian language.
The data are presented according to the new territorial organization of the local self-government ("Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia" No 55/2004).
The State Statistical Office hopes that this publication will fulfill its role of providing users with data for further analysis and planning.

Vo ovaa publikacija Dr`avniot zavod za statistika objavuva podatoci za vospitno-obrazovniot proces vo osnovnoto i vo srednoto obrazovanie {to se dobieni od redovnite godi{ni statisti~ki istra`uvawa sprovedeni na krajot na u~ebnata 2008/2009 godina vo site osnovni i sredni u~ili{ta.
Publikacijata sodr`i podatoci za brojot na osnovnite u~ili{ta (redovni, specijalni, za vozrasni i za osnovnite umetni~ki u~ili{ta), nivnata rabota vo smeni, paralelki, u~enici po pol i spored pripadnosta kon etni~ka zaednica, u~enici spored postignatiot uspeh, u~enici koi zavr{ile u~ili{te, kako i podatoci za kujni i biblioteki vo u~ili{tata. Osven toa, prezentirani se brojni podatoci za nastavnicite spored vidot na rabotniot odnos, polot, pripadnosta kon etni~ka zaednica, stepenot na stru~na podgotovka, kako i podatoci za stru~nite rabotnici.
Kaj srednite u~ili{ta (redovni i specijalni), pokraj brojot na u~ili{tata, se prezentiraat i podatoci za paralelkite, u~enicite po pol i spored pripadnosta kon etni~ka zaednica, strukata, uspehot, kako i podatoci za zavr{enite u~enici spored vremetraeweto na obrazovnite programi, podatoci za nastavnicite spored vidot na rabotniot odnos, pripadnosta kon etni~ka zaednica, kako i podatoci za stru~nite rabotnici.
Publikacijata sodr`i i podatoci za vospitno-obrazovniot proces vo osnovnoto i vo srednoto obrazovanie {to se izveduva na albanski, turski i srpski jazik.
Podatocite se dadeni spored novata teritorijalna organizacija na op{tinite ("Sl. vesnik na Republika Makedonija", broj 55/2004).
Dr`avniot zavod za statistika se nadeva deka publikacijata }e ja ispolni svojata osnovna uloga i na korisnicite }e im pru`i brojni podatoci za ponatamo{ni analizi i planirawa.

METODOLO[KI OBJASNUVAWA
Vo ovaa publikacija se opfateni site vidovi osnovni u~ili{ta (redovni, specijalni, u~ili{ta za vozrasni i osnovni umetni~ki u~ili{ta) i site vidovi sredni u~ili{ta (redovni, specijalni i verski), so sostojba na krajot na u~ebnata 2008/2009 godina, koi se verifikuvani od strana na Ministerstvoto za obrazovanie, kako i sekoja edinica vo sostav na nekoe u~ili{te
Pod poimot u~ili{te se smeta organizacija ili vospitno-obrazovna edinica koja vr{i nastava od odreden vid, po odreden nastaven plan i programa, so eden ili pove}e nastavnici, bez ogled na toa dali taa organizacija ima samostojna uprava ili e pod rakovodstvo na nekoja druga uprava. Sekoja geografski odvoena edinica, isto taka, se smeta za u~ili{na edinica.
Osnovnoto obrazovanie vo Republika Makedonija ima za cel steknuvawe na op{to obrazovanie i podgotvuvawe za ponatamo{no op{to ili stru~no obrazovanie. Osnovnoto obrazovanie e zadol`itelno i e besplatno.
Osnovni u~ili{ta se: redovnite osnovni u~ili{ta koi mo`at da bidat samostojni ili podra~ni ; specijalnite osnovni u~ili{ta - za u~enici so pre~ki vo psihofizi~kiot razvoj; u~ili{tata za osnovno obrazovanie na vozrasni koi im ovozmo`uvaat na lica postari od 15 godini da se zdobijat so osnovno obrazovanie i osnovnite muzi~ki i baletski u~ili{ta koi kako dopolnitelno obrazovanie gi posetuvaat u~enicite od redovnite osnovni u~ili{ta
Srednoto obrazovanie ovozmo`uva steknuvawe na znaewa i razvivawe na sposobnosti za rabota i natamo{no obrazovanie. Srednoto obrazovanie, spored Zakonot za sredno obrazovanie, se ostvaruva preku obrazovni planovi i programi za: gimnazisko, sredno stru~no, sredno umetni~ko i sredno specijalno obrazovanie za u~enici popre~eni vo psihofizi~kiot razvoj. Gimnaziskoto i srednoto umetni~ko obrazovanie traat po 4 godini, dodeka srednoto stru~no obrazovanie trae 3 ili 4 godini vo koe u~enicite se opredeluvaat za edna od ponudenite struki. Vo na{ata zemja pos-toi i sredno versko obrazovanie koe trae 4 ili 5 godini. Voobi~aena vozrast na u~enicite vo srednoto obrazovanie e od 14 ili 15 do 18 ili 19 godini. Srednoto obrazovanie se ostvaruva vo sredni u~ili{ta koi se organiziraat kako javni u~ili{ta i privatni u~ili{ta.
METHODOLOGICAL NOTES
In this publication are covered all types of primary and lower secondary schools (regular, special, adult schools and primary and lower secondary art schools) and all types of upper secondary schools (regular, special and upper secondary religious schools) at the end of the school year 2008/2009, verified by the Ministry of Education..
A school is an organization or pedagogical-educational unit that is carrying out education of a definite type, according to a defined educational plan or program, with one or more teachers, irrespective of whether it is independent or under the management of other administration. Each geographically dislocated unit is considered a school unit, too.
The main aim of the primary and lower secondary education in the Republic of Macedonia is providing general education and preparing the students for further general or vocational education at the next level. The primary and lower secondary education in the Republic of Macedonia is compulsory and free of charge.
Primary and lower secondary schools are: the regular primary and lower secondary schools, which can be independent or local; special primary and lower secondary schools - for the students with intellectual and physical disabilities; adult schools which allow the students older than 15 years of age to complete their general education; and primary and lower secondary music and ballet schools, which provide supplementary education for the students from the primary and lower secondary schools.
The upper secondary education allows obtaining knowledge and developing the skills necessary for the labor market and it prepares students for further education at the next level. According to the Law, the upper secondary education is carried out through educational plans and programs as: general - gymnasium education, vocational upper secondary education, art upper secondary education and special upper secondary education for the students with intellectual and physical disabilities. The gymnasium and art upper secondary education last 4 years, and the vocational upper secondary education lasts 3 or 4 years where the students can decide on one of the offered professions. Besides these types of education, there is also religious upper secondary education in our country that lasts 4 or 5 years. The typical age of the students in the upper secondary education is from 14 or 15 to 18 or 19. The upper secondary education is carried out in the upper secondary schools that are organized as public or private schools.
