• competency based assessment is based on competency standards set by industry

• competency means that students have satisfactorily demonstrated: necessary knowledge and skills

ability to apply knowledge and skills to practical situations and industry standards

relevant employability skills

• you do not receive marks for your assessments; you are able to resubmit your assessments

What is competency based training (CBT) ?

• assessments are to be submitted on or before the due date

• please provide a medical certificate or other evidence if you are unable to meet the date, or sit an assessment, due to illness

• you will be given constructive feedback on your assessments

• at the assessors discretion you may be given a 2nd attempt on an assessment if your work meets the majority of the assessment criteria

Cheating • E.g. Copying or handing in someone else’s work

Plagiarism• E.g. Taking another person’s work or ideas and claiming

them as your own

Collusion • E.g. Two or more students exchange or share work and

claim it as their individual effort

• ask your trainer/assessor to clarify what is required • keep a copy of your assignments• start your assignments well before the due date• use the library resources and staff (they can also help

with research, referencing and report writing )• please provide the trainer/assessor with constructive

feedback

What else should I know about assessments ?

• Competent (CO) Final result - on review of all the assessments

• Re-enrol (R) If final assessment result does not meet the unit requirement and student is required to re-enrol

• Hold (H) If assessment result does not meet the unit requirements and students have been advised to resubmit by a negotiated date

• If you wish to appeal an academic result, the appeal must be lodged within four weeks of the date of the Statement of Academic Record being issued

• this information will remain confidential• there is a variety of support including assistive technology,
