Oppression What is it? What does it look like?
Oppression might be about one’s race
It could be based on your gender
Or it could be about your religion.
And if you are poor
Or you are surrounded by violence
Or if your government does this
in order to silence your voice,
Then you might feel like this
Or like this.
Would it be enough to make you do this?
And strive to do this?
So remember this:
So what is this “oppression” we are fighting?
• Oppression is: o when a person or group in a position of
power controls the less powerful in cruel and unfair ways
o a sense of being weighed down in body or mind
o the feeling of being heavily burdened, mentally or physically, by troubles, adverse conditions or people, and anxiety.
So what can we do to overcome oppression?
• Speak out against wrong or unfair things
• Stand up for ourselves
• Remain positive
• Don’t give in to oppressive situations
